Notes: One of our favorite releases every year is in the summer when we celebrate our anniversary. This one is two-fold: 26 years of Stone Brewing and 25 years of Stone IPA. To honor that beer, we did this supped-up version with massive amounts of Centennial hops and 9.7% ABV! Cheers to us, cheers to you, cheers to Stone IPA, and cheers to another amazing year.

Clear gold pour, soft white head that leaves a bit lacing. Snot locker says WC IPA from the getgo, grapefruit and pine. Taste buds agree, a solid malt backbone. Not as much carbonation as expected. This is a solid beer for sure!

This is from my Untapped review, slightly edited - 4.5 on UT.
The pour is a golden amber color with a fluffy white head. There's nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma has both pine and citrus in it.
The flavor is almost sweet at first, then the hops kick in hard. Pine, and lots of it, with just a bit of citrus.
The pine clings to my throat like super glue, and the body is thick.
Amazing beer overall, and worth the rating.

Good old-school, palate-wrecking IPA. Love this hop with all its pine and citrus, and love this style. Well-executed and the first Stone I've had in years. Happy to see they are still nailing the classics.

12 oz can dated 8/12/22 consumed from a tall tulip on 9/22. Beautiful deep gold/amber color with fluffy white head upon initial pour, very clear/no haze, but I was a bit disappointed at how little lacing was left and how short the head lasted. Smell and taste as advertised; pine resin, some grapefruit rind, classic west coast IPA profile. Pretty hoppy/bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation, but smooth mouthfeel. IMO, not nearly as nice as their 25th anniversary offering. At the price I probably won't revisit this one, unless I buy a single can to reconfirm my initial impression.

Can dated 8/9/22 into pint glass. Pours a gorgeous crystal-clear honey-gold with a big, blocky, cream-colored head. Great lacing! Initial impression is bitter citrus, pine resin, and grapefruit rind. Mouthfeel is clean and medium thick, with a good deal of carbonation. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Finish fades to a pronounced pine and citrus bitterness. Overall, a fine old-school West Coast DIPA.

I appreciate this brewery, solid line up (maybe a little over priced at times) and good specials.
I'm generally a fan of the IIPAs and expect the same here.
Dark golden and very clear. Full white head. Rich earthy hop aroma. Nice full feels. Some hop excess in the taste and that moves to a prominent bitterness that last middle through a long finish. A touch of sweetness and a malt fullness in feel but otherwise this is a hop forward and hop dominant drink.
Not sticky and moderate feel. Quite smooth once the sharpness settles down as it warms.

Canned on 8/9/2022 so approximately 5 weeks old when reviewed. Poured into a pint glass. It pours a bright, clear golden honey color with more than a finger of creamy, eggshell-colored head and thick, soapy lacing. Lots of bubbles ascend the glass. The smell features floral hops with notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, and onion. This is a classic West Coast IPA with very bitter citrus and biting Centennial hops. There is also a strong malty backbone but there is almost no sweetness at first. However, as the ale warms in the glass I begin to taste some balancing caramel - although it never overcomes the stringent bitterness. This ale has a moderate mouthfeel with fairly lively carbonation and at 9.7% ABV it has great substance. Overall, if you enjoy an old school West Coast IPA with huge bitter citrus and modest malt presence, then you should seek out 26 Anniversary Imperial IPA while it's available. Really enjoyable! As a bonus, it should age fairly well in the can so don't be put off by the canning date if you haven't tried it yet.

From a 12oz can dated 8/9/22 (enjoy by 12/7/22) into my trust Fenway Park pint glass.

Pours a translucent golden orange with about two fingers of off-white head. Very good lacing and retention.

Smells are faint but picking up some citrus, citrus peel, apple and floral notes.

Taste is big, bold and bitter. Pine and resin up front and all the way through. Some citrus peel and citrus tagging along for the ride. Some alcohol, not surprisingly in there as well.

Strong bitter aftertaste. Sticky. Warming from alcohol. Medium to low carbonation. Bit of a chore to drink due to the alcohol taste.

This is good and it's what Stone does-big and bitter. Not their best work though.

Fairly dark coppery body, perfectly crystal clear. Excellent head production and decent retention.

Quite a bit of toasted malt on the nose, crackery and grainy, not unlike a massive amber ale. Naturally, it's dosed with a hefty ration of hops, with notes of pine, bark, candied orange, and grapefruit peel. I wouldn't say it's a dead ringer for a near-10% ABV version of Stone IPA, but the pedigree is certainly evident.

Flavor follows. It's a bitter bomb through and through, equally bold in presentation of hops and malt. Strong semi-sweet notes of caramel, bread, and brown sugar are balanced by orange, pine, honey, leather, and grapefruit peel.

There's some heft to the malt body that belies the boozy strength, and a bit of alcohol bite, but this drinks incredibly smooth. An excellent beer, insanely drinkable for the ABV. Nothing particularly new, but a near perfect reinvention of a classic style.

Can from Uptown Market.

Amber with a dense off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is a blend of crystal malt and plenty of hops, citrus, pine, resin. Pine oil. The palate opens oily and bitter, resiny and pine heavy with orange peel. Mildly sweet but with some caramel. Bitter, oily finish. Medium in body.

12 ounce can.

Bottom of can reads:
"CA 08/12/22 E1137
EJBY 12/10/22"

Moderate pour yields a 1.5 inch off-white head over a copper body with sticky lacing.

Nose of mostly pine with a bit of malt and citrus.

Taste mirrors nose closely with pine resin leading the way backed up by some citrus notes.
Finishing bitterness is almost all pine resin with a hint of malt sweetness.

Great mouth fulfilling mouthfeel. ;)

Overall, another wonderfully bitter hop bomb from Escondido, CA.

Cheers!

A dark but shiny amber brew arrived in a pint glass, yes a pint glass, after drawn from a tap. Its white head is modest, but enduring. Sweet malt and soft piney hop aromas merge above the glass. This drinks richly and smoothly, but there is an alcohol bite with it and the esophagus feels the burn. The balance between malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness is a great one. At the onset this almost tastes too sweet, as at the alcohol seems to exaggerate the maltiness. The wonderful balance is best noticed midway through. During the finish the alcohol manages to amplify the bitterness of the hops. The hopping can best be described as piney and resinous. As with many high octane ales, the glass lacing is sparse. Despite its qualities, one pint will be enough for one sitting.

A - Dark medium copper gold color with thin white head resting on top with moderate carbonation.

S - Light caramel malt, sticky pine, and citrus on the nose.

T - Citrus, grapefruit, resiny pine, some light biscuity malt, and ends with an aggressive and lingering resiny pine and citrus finish.

M - Big medium body and very dry on the back of the tongue.

O - This is one bitter brew. Enjoying it!

Poured from 12oz. can. Darker Amber, not much head, with mild, active lacing. It is mildly floral. There is a clear 'Centennial Hop' flavor here. Know that. It has some of your usual West Coast IPA suspects (pine, citrus, grapefruit, etc). In my opinion tastes a little dank. It has a medium body, not all malty and chewy. It goes down easy. It is not too boozy tasting, but the alcohol becomes very obvious about 1/2 way though the beer. I LOVE dry hopped (or double dry hopped) beers so I was excited for this, however I am not a huge Centennial fan. So for me, this is not one I will be buying more of. If you like a Firestone Double Jack, or a Bells Double Two Hearted, or even drink a lot of the regular Stone IPA, then you may love this one.

12oz can stamped Packaged 08/09/22 Enjoy By 12/07/22 10:37 R poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 9.7% ABV. The beer pours bright honey colored amber with off white head. The head recedes to a rocky cap and leaves rings of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring caramel, candied citrus and pine. The taste is semisweet grapefruit with caramel malt and light pine coming through on the finish. Heavy bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Plenty of slick hop oil presence, but not syrupy. Overall, excellent high ABV, West Coast IPA.

Pours a very effervescent gold with 3 fingers+ of fluffy cream colored head. Lovely head retention & lacing

S: Cakey, a little pine once warm

T: Cakey, piney, a little grapefruit up front. More dryness & pine as this warms up, some pineapple notes . Finishes a little dry with pineapple & cakeyness & a little bit of woody hops as well

MF: Fairly chewy, low carbonation; nice balance

Easy to drink, good no nonsense Imperial IPA, nose could be more

Pours into a snifter a clear amber/bronze with a thinner white head atop.Stone fruit and resin come thru with a tinge of hot alcohol in the nose.Resiny hops are the main play maker on the palate but they don't punch your taste buds too hard, nice in that old school way. It's really good, close to great.
