Ask any hardcore Stone enthusiast about our most legendary beers and you’re bound to hear mention of this one. Nearly jet black with a fluffy hot chocolate-colored head, a goblet of this obsidian wonder held to the sky could block out the sun. Redolent with dark chocolate and heavy roast up front, gracefully supported by nuances of coffee, black currant, molasses as it finishes… this beaut is ageable for years. Some of us are still enjoying our bottles from the early 2000’s. So, to look ahead, what will your stock of the 2022 edition of the Stone Imperial Stout be in 2037?

Pretty standard imperial. Probably best purchased in a bottle and aged to get the best experience. I bought a six pack of cans so I'll need to drink them immediately. Underwhelming, which I'm starting to think is trend with Stone stouts.

12oz canned in late 2022; black body, opaque with a cap of mocha cream. A bit underwhelmed here, I was just hoping for a bit more complexity and more diversity, but this is a straight-up brew, nothing out-of-the-ordinary. Dry, roasty, coffee, malty, bitterness, dusting of cocoa, molasses, somewhat earthy and woody. Simple. Decent.

L - Pitch black with a creamy smooth tan head that sticks around for a good amount of time leaving behind a thin cap and a good amount of lacing. This is a good looking stout
S - roasted dark malts, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, hops
T - follows the nose - roasted dark malts up front and throughout intermixed well with bitter dark chocolate and coffee with molasses and hops to finish. Some licorice as well
F - full bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Smooth
O - honestly with everything being barrel aged these days, this stout feels relatively simple, but my god is it well executed. I'm not sure how much this recipe differs from the old Russian stout I'd had over the years, but regardless it's still a great stout

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV 10.5%. Pitch black colour, moderate to low tan head. Nice aroma of dark malts and chocolate. Fine roasty flavour, notes of strong coffee and dark bitter chocolate.

A bit surprised I had not reviewed this beer.
Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Very nearly black color with an excellent brown head and beautiful curtain lacing. Smell and taste of dark chocolate with a bit of vanilla and hint of coffee. Smooth, rich feel. Nice after hockey beer!

Canned 10/19/22; drank 1/8/23 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big dark tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.
Black licorice & fresh earth notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.
Black licorice & fresh earth flavors up front; mild chocolate notes & some booze heat on the finish.
This one's not for wimps, but it's pretty damn good. I'd have another!

This is such a good example of the style. Pours very dark. Bitter smell. Very full mouth feel. Immediate flavor. Complex until the finished. One of the few breweries that can actually make a good stout.

Pours very dark. Dark foam. Bitter aroma. A deep cocoa body. Dry and bitter. Not a lot of sweetness. Alcohol finish. I like my imperial stouts a little sweeter but it's still pretty good.

Thick inky black pour, nice brown head, and some really nice lacing. Not much in the aroma department other than some roasted malts, taste buds say stale coffee, dark fruit, molasses. Thick'n chewy, just gheway I like my stouts. This stands with the best Imperial Stouts.
