A - Pours with one finger of off white foam on top of a hazy, reddish brown body. The head settles quickly and leaves little lace.

S - Deep caramel, chocolate, and spicy notes of pepper, smoke, and clove.

T - Dark sugar, clove, and coriander up front. Some slightly harsh phenolics in the middle and a finish of brown sugar, chocolate, and dull spices.

M - Medium thick body, moderate carbonation, and a sweet finish.

D - I enjoyed this quite a bit last year when I had it fresh on tap, but it is not as enjoyable now as it once was. The aroma is quite nice, but the flavor is flabby and dull with a cloying meatiness that sits heavily on the palate.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

A: minimal head on a cloudy, deep auburn body. decent lacing.

S: mint, candy sugar, peppers, nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel.

T: cinnamon, chilis, caramel, fairly malty, brown sugar, spices, citrus.

M: chewy, medium body and light to moderate carbonation.

Overall: the chilis are very well applied. Enough to add flavor but not over done to hurt drinkablity or be considered a chili beer. Nice sweetness to heat balance. So far the tasting of 07- to 11 has been very interesting and well planned.

22oz bottle poured into a Vertical Epic glass. Tasted as part of a 03-03-03 to 12-12-12 vertical (ratings are from this tasting)

A - Dark amber/pale mahogany body with a light khacki head and mild lacing left on the glass.

S - A bit of booze, peppers and a touch of sugar.

T - Sugary sweet, caramel, chile peppers, bitter hops. Lots of pepper flavor, but no real heat. Well rounded and balanced.

M - Medium body, light/medium carbonation, chile pepper flavor but no heat, a bit of booze.

O - Malty and peppery, well balanced, fairly easy drinking. Nice beer.

22oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. (tasted fresh upon release)

A - Pours a dark and ruby tinted amber body with a couple fingers of densely bubbled tan foam. After showing decent staying power, the head fizzles away with large bubble pops and leaves a fairly even coating of foamy lacing on the glass. 4.0

S - Very floral hop aromas up front, cinnamon, fruity/estery yeast aromas which are also sweet and somewhat candy-like. As the head falls, the Anaheim chiles become noticeable giving a peppery kick to the aroma. 3.5

T - Fruity Belgian yeast character gives the initial impression starting a bit on the sweet side, lots of esters, still quite floral and spicy with the cinnamon blending nicely. From there, there is a rather smooth transition from the flowery to the almost bitter pepper flavors that come on heading towards the finish. The peppers really don't give any heat and are quite manageable (even for someone not into the spicy stuff). Almost seems like the peppers could be used in lieu of hops to create the balance to the malty sweet and estery and yeasty Belgian character of the base beer. There is even what I'd call a bit of smokey/roasted pepper flavor in there too. Notes of cherries creep in periodically although this hits me on one sip and not another. Really interesting overall...I'm impressed. 4.5

M - Somewhat light feeling in body, but I wouldn't call it thin either. Carbonation is also on the lighter side and quite smooth. Peppers are really well integrated...plenty of flavor without the acid reflux inducing heat. 4.0

O - Though not my favorite of the VE series...still think 05.05.05 is the best of the bunch to date, this is quite good. As expected, a bit out of the norm, but an experiment that works pretty well for me. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden...never would have expected this to top out over 9%. Looking forward to having this one again at the end of the year side by side with the rest of the series. 4.0

Served in a snifter glass. Vintage 2011 bottle served 12/28/2012.

Appearance: A deep amber, heavy bubbles on the body when you place it against the light. Orange tinted white head about a notch under a finger's length settling just a bit with even lacing.

Smell: At first sniff you will think this beer deserves more than a four in actuality because of how quick it let's go it basically average. A light yeast/bread scent. I like beers to have deep smell and this one lacks it. Light malts and yeast, VERY light.

Taste: This brew what it lacks in scent it truly makes up for it in taste. Drinking it and then I had realize via website that it is a BSPA is a conflict. It is something special in it's own way. Part IPA, part stout part BPA. It has yeast-chocolate paired with strong bitterness.

Mouth: Though not the smoothest it is well defined. It has a stickiness to it that you will not forget. Medium maybe light carbonation unique bitterness in the end that is priceless.

Overall: Very good...not because I say but because it is. I was fortunate to find a 2011 batch at my local distributor. Thank you Neal and Mike at Superstar Beverage, as this beer is coming to an end; blessing in a glass. Salud!

I had this Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic about a year and one month after it was released. It is a tasty, fruity Belgian ale. The flavours from the grapes are quite strong but not unpleasant.

A: Orange colour and a 5 mm head that fades quite fast. 4

S: It basically smells like a mixture of white wine and apple cider. Not unpleasant. 4

T: Malty with some residual sweetness. Definitely much grainier than I expected from the smell. Ripe fruit flavours are evident. The alcohol is evident in the aftertaste. 4

M: Lightly carbonated. 3.5

O: 4
