May 15th, 2015 - The Cali-Belgique is a fine beer, but the red wine barrels add a slew of fine nuance and detail to the base brew. It still looks much the same, like a peach skin brown with a bit of an orange blush. The aroma has Elmer's glue and raspberries, with an extra round of fruits manifest in the smell of peaches and peach skin. The flavor is much of the same with more tangerine, and a prickliness with bright and lovely yuzu.

From tasting notes 01/09/18
Had on-tap at Stone World Bistro and Gardens in San Diego, CA
Appearance - Pours a clear and beautiful bright orange with a slightly pinkish hue. An island of suds float in the center with a thin ring lining the edge of the glass. No lacing.
Smell - Aroma is mildly tart with lesser sweetness. Green apple, lemon-lime like bright citrus, a bit of funk.
Taste - Tart and sweet upfront, but quickly met with some citrus bitterness. Rose-like floral undertone. Funky, green banana notes kick in at the finish, giving the aftertaste a bit of funk to the tartness and citrus pith while the floral rose character continues to ride beneath.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with light, tingly carbonation. Slick texture with a super dry finish.
Overall - Man, that's fucking delicious. Complex, assertive and harmonious as hell. If Cali-Belgique is the perfect way to showcase what yeast can do to an IPA, then this is a great way to showcase what aging a brew in red wine barrels can do. Well done, Stone.

Still a respectable brew perhaps with a cigar, but the flavors of cherry, kiwi, and oak don't complement each other flatteringly.

On draught at the West End Tavern. Golden orange color with a decent sized white head. Great aromas on this beer with floral scents, peach, dark fruits, maybe some raspberry. Flavors of the red wine barrel come through more in the taste with earthy notes, more dark fruit flavors, and some sourness. Smooth, mouth feel on the lighter side. Overall a very good and intriguing beer, a conversation starter.

On tap at Spokeasy Public House
A: Pours hazy red-orange amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a thin layer and laces lightly.
S: Lots of wine barrel character, fruity, peach, plumb, tart cherry, oak, a little alcohol, and a little sweetness.
T: Slightly tart, fruity, red wine character, oak, faint citrus, slight Belgian yeast funk, and some alcohol.
M: Medium body, moderately low carbonation.
O: Wine barrels really took over, not much of the base beer left. Not terrible, but not necessarily my thing. Still cool to try.

On tap at The Pittsford Pub in Pittsford, NY.
This one pours a murky pink-ish orange, with a small head, and a good amount of lacing.
This one smells like red wine, dark fruit, wood, Belgian yeast, and some mild hops.
This is a really interesting beer- hard to figure out. It was listed on the menu as white wine barrel aged, but after tasting how tannic it was, I talked to the Stone rep and confirmed that it was indeed red wine BA. The red wine comes through pretty strongly, with some nice wine-soaked fruit flavors, some apricot and pineapple, some clovey bitterness, ad some oak. There's definitely a lot going on here, which is cool.
This is medium bodied, with a high level of carbonation, and a crisp, slightly juicy mouthfeel.
A really interesting beer, and another curveball from Stone. It's cool to see them do something well that's not a hop bomb.

Had a 4 ounce pour at the tap house by PETCO park. It is funky. Nose reminds me of orange peels in a fragrant but uncitrusy way. Tastes woody and funky. I would enjoy drinking this with brunch.
