Bottle dated 2012

Pours opaque dark brown with 1/8 inch of khaki head that settles to a thin ring on top and leaves faint spotty lace.

Smell is somewhat subdued overall and is floral up front with faint dark cherry and bready malt on the finish.

Taste is of piney hops up front with grapefruit and a hint of honey on the back end.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

This one is hard to categorize. It has a strong hop presence initially with bold malt in the finish. Tart citrus notes and some honey sweetness round it off. A solid effort whatever style you choose to call it.

A: Black with a mocha head.

S: Fruity/citric hop character dominates the nose with just a touch of smoke.

T: Fruity, orangey hops, but not bitter or harsh, with smoke in the finish that lingers in the mouth, commingling with the prior citric fruitiness.

M: Medium bodied and smoothish. Smooth for a saison.

O: Definitely worth a try if you can find it. I love the experimentation stillwater has done with their saisons. This collaboration is not unlike some of their other beers.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a very dark, brown-to-black coloring with a frothy, bubbly, dense, low profile, light tan head. Aromas of tangy sweet, roasted notes, bitter coffee and hops characteristics, tart fruit notes, and subtle spicing. Flavors are tangy throughout, with cherry and berry sweetness. Some very subtle peat and smoke notes, with a hint of tangy hops building towards the tail end. Definitely leaning heavy on the sweet side, with the roast keeping it slightly in check. Light, crisp bodied, with a tangy sweet, fruity aftertaste. Effervescent, crisp finish. This beer is pretty interesting; unlike any I've had before.
