Notes: One of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character.

The IPA That Launched Generations of Hop Fanatics
First Release: August 1997

By definition, an India pale ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale—and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well-respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy, piney hop flavors and aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

One of my early go to IPAs. After many years, I've found Odells, Ballast Point, and Elysian provide citrus and floral hop notes that I prefer depending on the mood. Stone has a special place in my heart, a bit one note and not the absolute best. The price is right and is still in the rotation, sometimes for the memories it conjures up. Don't change it Stone!

It's a high quality, well made beer. Just not for me. The finish is bitter to the point of being off-putting. I just do not want to take additional sips.

Golden pour with a medium amount of head that dissipates relatively quickly. Odor is dank, hoppy, and piney. Taste is traditional IPA with hoppy bitterness and a slight bit of pine. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. Overall a good IPA.

Wow. Way over rated. Or maybe just old school. Bitter baby. I get DIPA’s less bitter.

I revisit this one periodically, because at one time it was in my top 10 IPAs and I get nostalgic about that. Not sure if the recipe has changed over time, maybe it's just not been as fresh, I don't know... but I can only say it's a little better than okay in today's IPA world.

Pours a clear gold, big frothy white head, ridiculous amount of lacing. Citrus, and tropical fruits. Medium bodied, excellent carbonation. This is solid!

Pretty solid but a touch too bitter for my liking.

Pine cone resin in a glass. A nice golden color with a rich head. The malt is there. The hops are solid but one dimensional. If you like bitter the sides of your tongue will hold that bitterness for a while. I prefer grapefruit to pine so not my cup of tea but we’ll made and enjoyable for the style.

Pours a clean rusty orange. Not too much on the nose, a bit of pine and some malty sweetness. Upon the tongue, a definite old school IPA. The malts are at play here. They mince nicely with the malts and that’s probably the idea. Personally, I prefer the hops to win out. The feel is very clean, too clean for me. I get this more of a macro appeal. It definitely accomplishes that. No complaints, but not special.

Appearance: Clear light copper color, rocky bone white head. Spotty lacing. Rocket ship carbonation.

Smell: Dank, pineapple, orange, lemon candy.

Taste: Bitter. Refreshing. Bone dry. Citrus fruits, aspirin-like bitterness. Pine needles come to mind. I'm trying to remember if I chewed on some when I was a kid. I'm gonna say pine needles. Malt is almost toasty, not sweet at all. Nice balance.

Feel: Perfect for an IPA. Just shy of medium bodied, dry and well carbonated.

Overall: Very good beer. My neckbeard should come in nicely after drinking this.

Light amber with a 1/2" white head, which lasts. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is floral, piney, grapefruit, grass.

Taste is pine, grapefruit zest, orange, resinous.

Medium body, moderate carbonation. dry, resinous finish.

Stone knows how to do IPA's. Excellent.

Not for loosers. A beer for late nights, just before enjoying a not so good food. At least the beer was worth the wait.
