Notes / Commercial Description:
The IPA That Launched Generations of Hop Fanatics
First Release: August 1997

By definition, an India pale ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale—and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well-respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy, piney hop flavors and aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

99? What? I love Stone beers, but hate this one. Mine is fresh according to the bottle, but WAY too grassy, and off putting. Just a nasty beer, and I don't get the fan fare with this. Where are the grapefruit, piney, citrus notes that you get in a West Coast IPA? Just completely non-existent with my particular beer.

This is the worst beer I have ever had. It nearly made me throw up because it just tasted like shit. Not smooth, just awful. Stay away! Not good tasting at all. Not smooth, doesn't smell good either. The taste is dreaful.

Honestly this is one of the worst IPA's I've ever had. Mostly because of the quality control but also because on the West Coast this is what most people try as their 1st ipa. This is when people decide they don't like IPA's.

Stone is having quality control, sanitation, and/or supply chain problems. The recent batches of IPA have been undrinkable. I lived in San Diego in the early 2000's - back in those days, the beers were a bit heavy-handed, but very well crafted.

I sent a note to the brewery after dumping 18 beers down the sink over a span of 3 months - no reply. This brewery has become too big for its britches, and quality is suffering. There are too many fantastic beers on the planet to bother with Stone.

To follow the terms of service:

Look: the IPA poured into glass with an appropriate amount of head and decent clarity... no complaints.
Smell: A bit off, see below
Taste: the flavor resembles a bucket of fermented mop water used to clean an institutional mess-hall. Notes of industrial solvent, mold, and cat urine.
Feel: well - I did not manage to swallow a single sip in the three six packs I purchased. Dish soap would be an accurate portrayal.
