Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The IPA That Launched Generations of Hop Fanatics
First Release: August 1997

By definition, an India pale ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale—and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well-respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy, piney hop flavors and aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

From a 12oz bottle best by 7/26/18. Pale orange color with a finger of white head. Smell is muted - some citrus and malt in the background. Medium feel. Juicy citrus up front with some malt and piney hop bitterness to finish. Nicely balanced.

A true West Coast IPA classic. Still a wonderful beer despite it being crowded out by so many different hop forward ales. It’s got the fruit forward hoppiness with a great bitter taste but plenty of malt to bring it into balance. Now being sold in 24 oz cans! I buy one about once a month. I love cans!

i’m not sure this is as exceptional as others seem to think but it’s a good ipa that’s virtually universally available (i can pick a single up at my wal-mart any night). it’s reliable and i’ve had many of them to close a rough night so it’s rather dear to me.

Looks lighter than other IPAs, orange-yellow. Smells of orange and grapefruit hit the nose right off the bat. Citrus is there but subtle in the taste. Love the bitterness. A bit more carbonated than I would like but 6.9%abv means I’m not complaining. A good beer but I prefer the offerings from Ballast Point (esp Big Eye).

Thick golden color with a 1-inch head and good retention. Grapefruit, orange, herbal, and pine aromas.

Citrus quenches with a puckering hit right up front--but not an overly strong one. On tap I feel like this grapefruit, citrusy taste tends to dominate, but out of the bottle the deeper pine notes and sweet bready malts are more noticeable on the back end. I prefer the former, though I wonder how much of that has to do with freshness (no date printed on this 6-pack).

Smooth, crisp, and slightly dry finish. A reliable classic.

super super hoppy ale. it doesn't smell like it tastes if that makes sense. it smells very mild and when you taste it WOW. tons of flavor and a clean finish is just my style. Sculpin is just a hair better in my opinion but this is a close second so far.
