Notes / Commercial Description:
The IPA That Launched Generations of Hop Fanatics
First Release: August 1997
By definition, an India pale ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale—and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well-respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy, piney hop flavors and aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

A very nice ipa. I will be having this again at some point. It's really good, but not mind-blowingly great.

Don't believe the hype!!! Gotta respect the history, but by today's standards it's a normal IPA. Nothing special. It looks like any pale ale, with a good lasting foamy head. Smells quite strong, just hops though. Not unpleasant, but cliché. Nothing special. Tastes like nothing special. Feels like beer. ITS AVERAGE.

Clear golden, white foamy head, persistent, very lacy; Aromatic, fruity; Sweet, medium hoppy; Tangy; Good with with a strong aftertaste.
My initial impression is so far below the BA average, I should try this one again to see if it can change my mind.

Stone IPA pours a golden amber color with a nice head. The smell and taste are rich with hops flavors and earthy fragrances. Subtle backdrop of dark malt sweetness allows the hops to shine bright.
This ale is a sure thing. A classic now. Can't go wrong with that one.

Simply one of my top 3 IPA’s on the planet. Much like my last review, if you find yourself at the tasting room in San Diego, ohhh how this pours when it’s fresh. Hands down my go to IPA at home and abroad. You can’t go wrong. Cheers!

Look - poured from a 12 oz bottle. Pale yellow in color, one finger head with lacing and decent carbonation.
Smell - floral, citrus, pine, heavy hoppiness. A myriad of flavors, though subtle, are detectable. Some malts in the background as well.
Taste - Strong, strong hoppy flavor with a malty backbone. A blend of floral and citrus hoppy flavor balanced out by a nice malt flavor in the finish. Clean and incredibly refreshing.
Feel - medium bodied, perhaps a bit more. medium high carbonation with a kick in booze as well at near 7%.
Overall - Stone IPA is one of archetypal examples of a west-coat style IPA. Catered to a smaller audience when the brew was first made, it is very hoppy compared to other similar beers on the market and some might find it a bit too overwhelming. However, to this day, it still is one of the best out there.

IPA brewed by Stone Brewing, with an ABV of 6.90% This American IPA pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, and earthy grains and malts. This brew has the look and smell of most American IPA on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. The look and smell are really inviting. Now for the taste, it is Bold with hop bitterness at first. Then you pick up a smoothness of earthy grains and malts at the end. There is alot going on in Stone IPA. If you are not a fan of hops, this is not the brew for you. The body of Stone IPA, is a medium to heavy. But not to heavy. There is a super nice balance to this brew, there is nothing overpowering about this American. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I am going to Stone IPA a solid 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Stone Brewing, did a super nice job with American IPA.

Pours a less than clear golden with a slightly off white full fluffy head that has rood retention
AROMA: Pungent, tart with citrus, fruity esters. Pine aroma.
TASTE: Sharp piney hops, bitterness that makes you pucker up. Biscuit malts that provides good balance.
Bitter finish that stays long after each sip. Pucker up!!
I don't always like highly hopped beers. This one was highly hopped and I liked it alot.
