On cask at Haven Gastropub in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with earthy and vegetal herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but there are some really earthy, leafy hop aromas and flavors on this one.

One of the less appreciated beers from Stone, Cali-Belgique gets overshadowed by Ruination and some of their more hop forward IPA offerings. On the lighter side color wise for a pale ale, this beer also has much less of Belgian yeast character than many in the Belgian Pale family. A slight sour grapefruit nose and taste which I enjoy, this flavor seems to come from a combination of both the finishing hops used the the natural belgian yeast flavors, likely not an Abbey Ale yeast . A light refreshing session style pale ale, Cali-Belgique is perfect pint for relaxing in the Stone beer gardens next to the brewery on a sunny day.
