Brewed by:
Stone Brewing
California, United States

Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
First Release: February 2014
India pale ales harness the inherent flavor characteristics of hops to bring forward familiar flavors of pine, resin, spice, and citrus. In some cases, those botanicals are so potent, they exactly mirror specific edibles. Such is the case with Centennial hops, which hail from the Great Northwest and come across on the palate like a mouthful of citrus fruit. That sensation is amplified with this, the first beer introduced via the Stochasticity Project–a double IPA brewed with Centennial, Chinook and Magnum hops as well as an immense dosing of fresh grapefruit peel. The result is over-the-top bittersweet grapefruit intensity that is at once refreshing and bracing in its citrusy bitterness.

Brewed exclusively for World Of Beer.

Served in a Grapefruit Slam pint glass.

Appearance Nothing out of the ordinary for a Stone Ruination, One finger head with good lacing.

Smell Wow, Grapefruit up front with some slight hint of Ruination Hops in the background.

Taste Once again the Grapefruit takes center stage with this beer, I really enjoyed the tartness of the Grapefruit along with the bitterness that is Ruination.

Mouth-feel Some carbonation, very smooth to drink.

Overall Well done Stone and World Of Beer. I was really excited when I learned of this exclusive release from Stone and World Of Beer and could not wait until the release date. My only regret is that this was a one time only release, would like to have enjoyed more of it since the local World Of Beer has run out, maybe Stone would consider making this a 365 on tap or perhaps bottled version available to enjoy.

World of Beer exclusive

Appearance - looks very typical. Average lacing.

Smell - HOLY GRAPEFRUIT. That is all.

Taste - Like a very subdued version of ruination, where all missing taste is replaced with grapefruit. I'm actually surprised, given that this is a stone beer, that the hop flavor is taking a backseat to grapefruit.

Mouthfeel - Pleasant, a very good viscosity for an ipa. An unremarkable carbonation, which I typically think is a good thing.

Overall - I really like it. I've never had anything close to this grapefruity. It's not as good of an ipa as regular ruination, but I think it is as good of a beer.
