Dark Horse Rain in Blood.

Bought this one on suggestion from a new guy at one of my local craft shops. Not sure why it's labeled as retired on here since the bottled on date is 1/26/16. Nice homage to Slayer. Time to review a few beers.

Look -From the twelve ounce bottle hard poured into a dimpled pint glass. Brew is a darker orange mixed with just a touch of copper. The head stands about a finger and three quarters in height and is frothy and densely packed. Basically looks like an upside down liquid creamsicle of sorts. Carbonation appears to be about moderate as expected. Noticing the reviews aren't all that great some I'm hoping they likely changed the recipe and reintroduced the beer. Lacing and stick after a finished glass is moderate.

Smell - The nose is mostly dominated by a heavily fronted wheat aspect aspect and the orange definitely seems to be skin like instead of juicy in nature. No typical hop notes nor any detectable malts aside from what has already been mentioned. 75/25 wheat to orange ratio in this department.

Taste - Again the orange doesn't stack up as very balance in relation to the wheat. This is a VERY wheaty beer. WHEAT. The orange does come through just a squeeze more and again remains very skin like in flavor. Basically the flavor profile is like putting orange skins on white bread and eating it. But since it's in beer form it likely tastes better than what the aforementioned concoction would.

Feel - Arguably the best part of the whole beer. It sits a touch acidic and moderate to thin with a nice pillowy texture on the tongue. Carbonation is at the bare minimum. Orange skins become prevalent here even more so at about 35/65 in relation to the malt. Swallows easily with some tartness and a surprising showing of alcohol.

Overall - It wasn't quite what I wanted but it is still solid enough. As I've already states multiple times, the wheat is the driving force within this beer,Not the oranges. As for drinkability it's a one and done for me. A little too acidic for your wife on a hot summer day, but could surely accompany you to the beach in the summer. As always, try it for yourself.

The POUR leaves a fine thin white head. The NOSE is orange with some peel, ripe orange like a bushel of oranges that are overripe, very nice dank orangery..did i mention oranges yet?. TASTE is light, I can definitely taste the orange "juice" with a super fast finish...hang on i got to let this one warm up a little....10 minutes later cause i cant wait...OK, so far its has a thin BODY and remember I'm a stout drinker so my rating is biased. It has a fresh flavor and is definitely an all day APA. Probably awesome on a hot summer day in Michigan. Juicy oranges if you like oranges. Did i mention oranges? I don't get any hops but oranges. Fruity and clean it feels as if I'm drinking a spiked sierra nevada ale spiked with orange juice. Not my style but nicely done.. cripsy. A little light on flavor. Dark Horse makes some great beers, this one is great for the all day ale guy who loves oranges. FINAL WORD: A nice light ale but doesn't blow my socks off, a hot summer day may reveal more character but just not my style. cheers

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a hazy murky burnt Orange; small off-white head; leaves nice retention and little lacing. The aromas are extremely faint. Bready malts. Not much going on. The flavors are quenching, but still doesn't have a ton going on. There's also cocoa and caramel notes. Some hints of wheat. Some corn. The orange almost seems non-existent. The hops seem non-existent as well. The mouthfeel is nice. It's light, but still has a body to it. Moderate carbonation; very smooth and creamy. Easy drinking.

This is an underwhelming pale ale, but it's still a refreshing beer. This would work on a hot summer day. I wish the orange notes popped though.

Label says pale ale but nothing in the flavor indicates this. No hop presence and the malt bill of a wheat beer, with which the blood orange flavor clashes spectacularly.

Orange and grapefruit in aroma, with a touch of caramel malt. Flavor is fairly sweet, with a slightly medicinal, candy note. Flavor also add a resiny, lightly bitter character. Would be better without that medicinal note.
