Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double the flavor and alcohol. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "The Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us).

A: Very hazy dark copper. Pours with a good fingers worth of tight, tannish colored head that fades to a surface coating then a ring around the glass. Decent lacing.

S: When I first poured this, there was a huge nose of citrus and grapefruit. As it sat, it became more perfumed and the alcohol began to show through.

T: Sweet caramel malt. Orange. A mild bitterness. Alcohol really develops as this beer sits on the tongue.

M: Thicker side of medium with an odd balance between the syrupiness of the malt and the lightness of the alcohol.

D: Not what I was expecting, but still good. Hops are toned done quite a bit, while the alcohol is turned up. However, while the alcohol is rather prevalent, it is not distracting. IMO, the main flaw is the sweetness - I can handle the alcohol, but the sweetness is just too much.

Undated can into pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy amber-honey color, with a brief light tan head. No lacing. Initial impression is citrus, pine, and malt - very straightforward DIPA. Mouthfeel is sticky like a 12% DIPA ought gto be. Finish is sweet and malty. Overall, a very enjoyable DIPA!

Appearance – This, dirty pond brown had an appropriately moderate head.

Smell – The nose is powerful and equal parts toasted malt and heavy citrus hops with light lemon. This is a big balanced DIPA.

Taste – The monster hops step up at the taste but the heavy malts keep them in check. A sharp pine flavor shows up at the taste.

Mouthfeel – This full-bodied DIPA is moderately dry. I expected a super-dry finish but the caramel from the malts keeps it pretty even. There is absolutely no alcohol sting so beware of this 12.0 ABV heavy hitter.

Drinkability – This is dangerously easy to chug.

12 oz bottle from 2015 (don't know bottle date) .
Poured dark amber, minor head dissipated quickly with some lacing.

Nose of a convoluted battle between hop, malt, pine, caramel and ?!? teriyaki ?!?

Palate of hops and hops interlocked in a battle with malts, caramels and pine. Semi thick mouth feel with slight sting left on the tongue. Higher AVB not really noticeable on the mouth but definitely warms the central nervous system after several quaffs.

This one aged rather well becoming smoother. Just the teriyaki aroma on the nose I can't place my finger on and seemed a little off.

Enjoyable.
