Inspired by West Coast I.P.A.'s, but brewed with Michigan style. The Crooked Tree is heavily dry hopped to give it a big aroma of pine and citrus. The flavors are big, yet very balanced between fresh hops and malt. Often described as "grapefruit" our hops give this beer an excellent fruit flavor that finishes dry.

12 oz no date.
Pours with a huge head, had to wait and then pour the rest. And yet, the staying power! 15 minutes later, still a nice cap with stiff sides. Medium brown and opaque, hazy body -- looks like the raspberry ale but a little darker. The lacing at the end of the voyage is outrageous, looks like someone decorated the pint glass with fake spiderwebs for Halloween.
Taste is all high-alpha west coast goodness. More pine resin than citrus, approachable. A faint breadiness lurks below.
Very mellow, taste is all hop flavors with little bitterness until the finish. More floral and citric than expected from the smell. Pale malts with some sweetness balance this one out. Slight mineral note on the finish.
Creamy, exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. Medium-light body. I think the taste and mouthfeel (especially mouthfeel) benefited from me pouring with a huge foamy head and then ignoring it for 15 minutes as it warmed -- both are much more mellow and improved from the other bottles in this six pack.
This might be the opposite of the "I guess I got a bad bottle" review -- this one was a lot more enjoyable than its siblings. Will need to seek out more to confirm, but this bottle lived up to the hype. Gives the other Michigan IPAs a run for their money, very good.

Beautiful pour, lots of floaties in this unfiltered beer. Cloudy, thick amber body capped by a nice creamy off white head. Lots of sediment in the bottle, wish I noted the "unfiltered" sooner so I could have saved a bit at the bottom for a final swirl. Still squarely in the East Coast IPA family, mildly bitter, but also fairly malty. Tastes, great, looks great, finishes well.

12oz can
it’s been years since I’ve seen this one anywhere around here
L: slightly hazed amber body; persistent, foamy, beige head slowly fades
S: caramel malt, grain, pine, citrus
T: just as good as I remember; old school IPA flavors: caramel, bread crust, and grain malt backbones met with pungent earthy pine, zesty grapefruit & orange, along with a slight herbalness
F: resinous & sticky bitterness, moderate carbonation, pungently bitter with pine lingering on the dry finish
O: better than I remember it being!

Unfiltered hazy amber color. Minimal head ringing the glass, but lacing the glass nicely. No grapefruit taste as some have implied, but hint of citrus on the nose. Bitter with a clean finish.

The pour is a dark & murky orange. On the aroma i'm picking up some tangy citrus, slight malt bill, & some slight herbal & tea notes as well. The taste follows the nose along with some piney bitterness that shows itself more towards the finish. Cheers! B
