Look:
Quite effervescent after pouring from 12oz. bottle. Nice lacing after the head deflated. Hazy copper color that is darker than expected.

Smell:
Strong floral hops. Slight caramel notes and tart fruit.

Taste:
Strong bitterness greets you at first sip (but not very high on the IBU scale). After the bitterness fades, sweet malt and caramel flavors come through at the end. Citrusy notes creep up and, upon fading, finishes slightly dry

Feel:
Great mouthfeel. Fuller than expected and pleasing to the tongue. Light – Medium.

Overall:
I really liked this IPA and my first sample from Dark Horse. I saw this in a Michigan Meijers store on vacation and gave it a try.

Very good IPA offering from Dark Horse. You can't find a better balanced IPA than Crooked Tree. There's nothing exciting or unique about this beer, it is simply crafted to perfection. If you enjoy IPAs you will definitely appreciate this beer.

Bottle. Pours this funky brown orange color with a gold hue. Full finger of white fluffy head. Didn't dissipate quickly. Lingered. Lots of purdy bubbles rising from bottle of pint glass. Smell wet hops and citrus but I know it is going to be piney. Taste is just that but clean. Nice clean and fresh wet hop taste. Piney but not too bad. Finished clean with bubbles. Solid ipa. Will drink again.

The appearance of this beer is murky for an IPA,a cloudy orange.
Right away with a surprising fresh citrus but not BIG hops taste and it's w/a medium to full body.
Overall, for a not so super hoppy tasting IPA, it's drinkable and very satisfying.
My wife bought one for me & i'm gonna watch a recorded two day old,Fare Thee Well night 2 in Chicago while (or soon after) drinking it (depending on when my wife comes back up from the basement after gaming)...i'll continue watching Seinfeld reruns & reading Ulysses until she gets up here...My dog Sputnik looks bored over there setting in the red chair, poor guy! He wants to watch Grateful Dead & Trey too....also,this beer has a slight after taste that is not the best...a little bitter in a bad way...like the way you can feel about a Crooked tree in your back yard & the way it always scares ya a little bit that it might fall on yer garage in stormy weather...

This is a wonderful floral forward IPA. It has a nice malt backbone, but it avoid the trap of sweetness. It is balanced, fun, and utterly enjoyable. Pleasantly surprised by this one, the best Dark Horse beer I have yet had.

Hops/citrus in aroma and flavor. This ale was good but it had a slightly dirty flavor, almost like a heavily sedimented Belgian Ale without the flavor aspects. Pretty good, just could have used a little cleaner hop bite.

A-pours a hazy copper color with a big fluffy off white head with good retention
S-citrus, bit malty, hint of pine
T-very strong orange citrus flavor with a substantial malt backbone, and resiny pine in the finish
M-medium bodied, mine was highly carbonated and gushed out of the bottle
O-pretty solid IPA, I thought the aroma was a bit subdued but the flavor was very good

Pours a medium yellow-golden body, one finger white head, good retention and nice lacing. Smells of bread, citrus, a bit of pineapple and tropical fruit, mild pine, toffee and caramel. Flavour is a bit sweet with bread and caramel, a mild-moderate amount of hop aromatics come out to play with a bit of grapefruit and pine; nothing overwhelming but provides a nice balance to the sweet malt. Moderately bitter, but not over the top. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, fair carbonation, moderate pine bitterness meshes in well with an otherwise light caramel finish. Overall, a decent flagship IPA that doesn't blow minds but can sometimes be a good hoppy option when there aren't others that are quite so appealing.

Into an imperial pint, from a single w/o a date stamp

a: a beaut, huge 2 to 3 finger off-white head that stuck around for ages and left tons of lacing; a very hazy cinnamon orange body
s: little piney resin, caramel and wheat bread fresh from the oven, something a little spicy, like allspice or something, some very fruity deep round grapefruit or maybe blood orange notes as well (no rind or tartness to me).
t: the nose kind of prepares you well, as you get a little citrus on the front with some nice soft malty doughy sweetness, then mid-way through it gets pretty spicy, juicy, and ends with some more caramel and juicy sweetness and some tea-like dryness.
m: pretty substantial even heavy body for an ipa; medium to low carbonation, tongue is totally coated with hop oils, despite big juicy body this finishes dry and even a little chalky.

Have heard about this one for a long time but never tried it. Pretty big beer with big flavors. Hoppy but balanced with substantial malt backbone...I could see someone thinking it a bit messy, but for me, the integration of flavors works. Though it is a lot bigger, some things about the flavor profile remind me of some of my favorite Bitters and ESBs back in England. This is right up there with Centenniel and 2 Hearted (though very different), which is saying a lot in my book. Here's to Michigan ipas!

On tap at a bar called Dark Horse in Chicago. I thought this one was decent. Dry, light body. Slightly hoppy. Was also drinking an Anti-Hero at the same time, so this one kind of got overshadowed.

Maybe I got a bad bottle not entirely sure as the date was super hard to read. But to me this tasted like a unbalanced Carmel bready mess. Would like to try again at some point just based on reviews on here but for now one of the worse ipa I have had

A: Amber gold with a slight haze, bottle conditioned, yeast sediment in the bottom. 1” foam cap dissipates fairly quick to film, produces excellent lace.
S: Citrus and bread.
T: Very fruity, juicy, plum with citrusy hop flavors dries out on the finish, a little bread in the background.
M: medium low carbonation, medium body a touch chalky, some light astringency.
O: Big flavor packed into an American IPA.

Not a pleasant beer too look at, very cloudy but a nice white head. Very citrus grapefruit aroma, starts off with a smooth taste and has a very bitter after taste. Great for anyone looking for that beautiful grapefruit bitter taste. My only wish was the taste was as delicious up front as it is with the aftertaste.

Fruity aroma kind of like peach.Lots of settlement in bottle before pouring. Label says unfiltered and unpasterized. Initial taste bright slightly fruity but not sweet and a little earthy. Carbonation a little higher than average.Smooth hoppy flavor with slight bitter aftertaste.

Substantial sediment; pungent grapefruit aroma; resinous, malty arrival, malty and tart; hefty mouthfeel. Not so refreshing, bottle maybe past it's prime (no date) bought 8/15, reviewed 9/1/14.

This was a good beer. Super hoppy with great hop aroma. The taste was also that of a hopped up IPA. The fact it is unfiltered showed a lot of hop residue inside the floating around the glass. It is stingy and has a big bite. The bitter factor played a role for me. The alcohol is definitely detectable. It is a strong beer and has a strong taste. Good beer for an IPA lover.

L: Consumed from a Spiegelau glass: pours copper with thick, white head. Great lacing.

S: Perfect balance of hops

T: Everything I want in an IPA - balance of hops, malt; alcohol doesn't distract. Dry-ish, but not too dry finish. Great hop bitterness.

F: Smooth with moderate carbonation

O: Great balance in everything.

On tap at Ashley’s Ann Arbor. Poured into half pint, this beer is orange-brown with a white head and lacing. Aroma is citrus and pine hops. Flavor is similar with a little malt sweetness that is quickly overwhelmed by the hop bitterness. Dry hop bitter finish. Medium body, medium-high carbonation.

Amazingly tastes almost the same in a bottle as it does on tap. I enjoy IPAs. When tasting IPAs, I've found myself using Crooked Tree as the benchmark for comparison. Cool brewery. Shares a parking lot with an independent bike shop. Get your oil changed and you get a free beer! I do my own oil changes, but got to admire the marketing.

This is a finely balanced IPA. Pours a deep amber/caramel color with plenty of liveliness to the carbonation and the appearance too. Very drinkable, with a good depth of hop flavor and very slight citrus undertones.

Had this beer served in a pint glass on draft; didn't impress me at all. Head was gone quick, appearance left to just an amber beer with a small collar. To malty for me.

Hazy dark orange with a short living white head, just some poor lacing and a few bubbly specks linger.
Smell of pine and grapefruit, leafy green, a tiny bit dank. Caramel and nice biscuit malt. Really faint tropical notes, mostly just pine and biscuit (old bottle, again?!).
Nice bittersweet citrus start, rich with the stuff, lots of orange, lime, grapefruit, juice, peel, pulp and all that. Just a bit of peach and mango. Slightly sweet biscuity malts, not enough to punch through the citrus crispness. Pine seals the deal, grass, spicy leafiness, nice dry bitter hop finish.
Medium body, somewhat thick and unfiltered, medium carbonation. A great deal of hops in the aftertaste, green, bitter, with just some citrus peel.
A generously hopped IPA, compensating on the lack of complexity, but that might also be on me (bottle could be old, can't find any dates on it). Nice.

Very nice, well balanced IPA that I have been able to enjoy on draft and out of the bottle. Very drinkable, full hop flavor with nice malt backbone. Slightly sweet after taste...not at all offensive. Dark Horse is great and this is a nice staple. Salute.

Well hopped, but also malty. very drinkable, with a well balanced mix of flavors, maybe added spice but not overly spiced, more like a nice mellow citrus and pine, with a sweet tea after taste.

I'm a huge fan of Double Crooked Tree -- I've got 16 bottles in my cellar. So I'm unhappily surprised not to like this very much.

My rating reflects my respect for the flavors in here. I recognize the quality offering that it is. It's just not hitting me where I live.

There's a vegetal must that's not jibing with what I want in an IPA. Perhaps that's the malt bill, which, in Double Crooked Tree presents as a syrupy sweetness. But here it comes off as a
