One of the handsomest beers I've ever poured.

An aroma much quieter than expected after having the outsized pleasure of watching this black gold fill the glass.

Flavor in the mouth also seems a bit of a . . . of a . . . I can't really say what the deal is. It's incredibly flavorful -- coffee, baker's chocolate, crispy pancake edges, something else I can't put my finger on -- and, yet, it's not quite great. I mean, I'm enjoying it as much as the best 50 or 60 beers I've had in the past year. But will I remember this a week from now? Six months from now? (I guess I will, now that I've written this sentence.)

Lively carbonation plays off of the smoothness to create an inspiring, compressed experience of disparate textures that combine to be more than the sum of the parts.

Well done, Dark Horse.

This might have been my first Dark Horse offering that I ever had the pleasure of drinking; nonetheless, I'm revisiting this Oatmeal Stout.

A: A great looking soapy caramel head with a nice black body that has somewhat brown accents. The head is the most impressive thing aesthetically about this beer. It lacks some heavy lacing, but makes up for the the head I was describing.

S: The nose of this beer is very earthy with roasted malts, the earthiness of this beer reminds me of wet soil. In addition to the earthiness One has mild chocolate and a barely perceivable amount of smokeyness.

T: The most surprising thing after smelling the stink out of this beer was that there was a little bit of a hop profile in it that I did not get in the nose. The beer begins with the roasted malts touching the tongue, followed by a transition to to sweetness, followed by an alcohol bite. Not an extremely clean finish to this stout.

M: The oatmeal probably makes this beer. One is medium bodied with a nice slippery touch.

D: Descent Dark Horse offering, but there is something about this beer that lacks serious complexity and the finish is a little rough.

12oz bottle provided by the ever so generous beerad666 poured into a dimpled mug

a-very deceptive..pours jet black and kind of appears oily and thick but also has a little watery appearance, 1/4" head that fell quite quickly...lacing doesnt stick around long at all..nice bubbles from carbonation at first..

s-toasted oats and coffee and caramel up front with sort of sweet smell...finishes sort of sweet in the nose

t-coffee and roasted malt, no real hop taste apparent but seems to have a little sting in there somewhere...

m-sort of watery and i think the level of carbonation brings this down a bit because it is quite prickly..

d-not sure of the abv but seems low on the taste if it is low i would try to session it if it werent for the carb problem

overall a nice oatmeal stout...not the best but far from the worst that ive had...glad i got to try it...

Black. Dark brown head eases into a thick ring with wisps across the top.

Roasted malt aroma mixed with the smell of moist soil. Interesting and not bad. In fact, it smells better and better throughout the beer.

Slightly sweetened old coffee with a bit of chocolate. Bitter dry finish.

Smooth and foamy. Astringent.

Good beer. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good.

poured a deep dark brown to a dogfish head signature glass with a full finger deep tan head that lasted but a minute or so. smooth, full-bodied, smells of chocolate and espresso beans. slightly bitter to the taste, but this diminished a bit as the beer warmed.

a nice enough beer.

Thanks to Lexx for picking this up on her way through Michigan.

Pours an opaque black, thin brown head forms, some lace spots, settles to a thin layer and ring. Smell is nice, chocolate, some roast, coffee, toffee, oats, very rich aroma. Taste is chocolate milk, roast, coffee, lacto sweetness, toffee, more chocolate, oats, light sourness in the finish, very nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, silky smooth, nice stout.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has an inky jet black body with a dark tan head that fades before I can set the glass down after the pour. The beer is too dense to see any carbonation or light.

S- This beer has a dark malt smell with a soft cream and coffee hint. There is a dry molasses hint and a note of smoke that comes through when it is warm.

T- This beer has a dark dry malt with black malt flavors and a chalk note to it. There is an earthy coffee note that comes through with a very light tartness from the malt. The finish is a bitter malt flavor and doesn't taste like it is hop related.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a thin almost watery texture.

D- This beer is smooth but there is no real depth and no oatmeal qualities. The dark malt flavor do have a nice flavor that makes it go down quickly.

tried tonight courtesy of the NOOB BIF in the BIF forums and BA Jmagnus87:

Pours a dark knight of oil into a pint glass. Lacing is for naught. Head tottaly absent. This beer is dank and dangerous. Taste is rich from the oats and malt profile. Any hops were an afterthought in this beer. It mocks me with a 6" monolith of darkness in my pint glass. Taste is of wet malt goodness with subdued smoke and a hint of peat and mineral. Slick and wet throughout with amost no carbonation. Overall pretty good and solid.

Thick black beer with a one-finger light brown head that fades to a respectable ring. Smells of sweet caramel and roasty dark malts with hints of marzipan and vanilla. Sweet caramelly maltiness thats almost immediatley balanced by a bitter hops. The finish is a bit rough with the substantial hop bitteness and dark malts amplifying an astringency. 8% abv beer with medium-full bodied mouthfeel that doesn't come of sticky or filmy.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle inyo an English "pot" pint glass.
Jet-black pour leading to a short, dark, tan head of foam.
Aroma-Dark fruit, faint coffee
Taste-Smoky,charred meat, dark roasted coffee, burnt hops. A definite sipper with big bold flavors, not smooth like a traditional oatmeal stout. Strong tastebuds needed.
