Very Good
Notes: A full bodied stout made with all malted barley and blueberry. Flavors of chocolate, roast malt and light blueberry make up the palate with lots of fruity blueberry aroma.

Smells and pours great. Taste is pleasantly mild and good, but nothing overly spectacular here. Would benefit imho by adding vanilla or chocolate notes, and storing in bourbon barrel.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. coding 21 06 A1 2055, whatever that means.

jet black body, small dk tan head. decent lacing.

smells "stouty" with a decent hit of juicy blueberry.

taste has more of the "feel" of blueberries than the taste. not unpleasant in any way, just not as much fruit as indicated by the nose.

between medium and full in the mouth.

overall, a nice enough drink, just a bit more blueberry would have made my palate happier.

this beer is awesome!!! man, dark horse kills it in my limited experience, i love the innovation and execution intersection, its way northeast on the X Y grid of excellence. stunning. a rich dark velvety look to it, no light coming in, no blueberry color either, and a tall inch of head the color of breakfast tea with cream. great aromatic to it, like opening a fresh box of blueberry morning cereal, that old post creation from sometime in the 90s, with the tiny little dried blueberries in it. its true to the fruit, but like that dried wild thing, slight tang. some dark chocolate in nose and taste too, but its not overly cocoa laden or anything, the blueberry is surprisingly forward for how boldly flavored the base stout is. a little java roast in there, but the blueberry cuts both the burnt and the bitter, amazing how much fruit flavor is showing through. lovely stuff. smooth and creamy in feel, enough sweet and tang, but it finishes fluffy and bitter. awesome on the tongue even minutes after the swallow. carbonation is way high for the style, which i dig, and the 7.5% abv i think is spot on for whats all happening here. drinks a bit lighter than that. in love with this, wish i had a few more bottles, and that these guys would start sending some beer out to colorado! bangin, bangtastic, bangalicious

I had high hopes for this beer going in. Pours an opaque black with nice head. Big time blueberry in the nose. Tastes definitely blueberry with a nice American Stout hiding underneath. Very balanced and not too bitter. Hint of smoke and roasted malt comes through. Overall I think it was a great base stout that they just added the blueberry to somehow. Nice full mouthfeel and very drinkable. Highly enjoyed.

Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht. Cheers!

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Murky dark brown pour yields a three finger, medium looking, crackly, slightly foamy, light tan head with decent retention. Black body with medium levels of carbonation evident. Foamy head recedes to a full cap. A ring remains but leaves no real lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Some definite blueberries on the nose, with some roasted malts, milk chocolate, notes of licorice and hints of tobacco in there. The blueberries come through rather nicely here.

TASTE: Roasted flavors with milk chocolate and some sweet blueberry character up front. A bigger finish of milk chocolate, roasted flavors, licorice, tobacco, as well as some light sourness from the blueberries. A bold and lingering finish with roasted chocolate, tobacco, some hop bitterness and some hints of sweet-sour blueberries as well.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, a bit lighter, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry for the style. Some bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: This is okay. The look is a little mundane and the feel a little foamy and airy for the style, but the base stout is enjoyable and the blueberries add an element of fun to the mix.

Poured into a tulip glass this beer has a 2 inch caramel head with a black body. Smell is of blueberry compote, roasted malt, some earth, and caramel. Taste is nice roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, blueberries, and chocolate. It has a smooth moderate mouth feel with a full body.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Very black body and a thin brown head.

Smell: Great blueberry aroma. I can make out a little stout roastiness behind the blueberries. Blueberry is very dominant without being overpowering.

Taste: Blueberry isn't as central in the taste as it was in the smell. Dark chocolate flavor and decent bitterness. Definitely a sipper of a beer to be savored.

Got a single from a local bottle shop, never had a "fruit stout" before..

Pours very dark, not motor oil thick like a imperial, but very very dark, can not see anything through it. about a finger of a deep mocah head, really good looking stuff.

at first smell it is like fresh blueberry muffins, followed by a nice roasty chocolatey charachter, then comes right back to blueberry.

the taste is a bit of let down given the nose... drinks like a standard stout with a tiny splash of blueberry sweetness. I will say it is a good stout base though, chocolate, roasty, a bit of bitter coffee and the blueberry comes through a little at the end.

mouthfeel does not dissapoint for a non imperial stout that is for sure, medium mouth, but really coats the palate almost like they brewed it with oats... Really nice!

Well, it is not quite what I expected, but that is not a bad thng, really nice, blueberry is up front in the nose but takes a back seat on the taste. Really good stuff!

Time to buy a couple 4 packs!

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into my Duvel tulip glass. Appears a dark brown, almost black color with a hearty finger of rich dark tan foam. Really nice to look at. Smells reminds me of chocolate covered dried blueberries. Kind of like the ones Harry & David sells/used to sell. Notes of molasses and raisins are also evident. Tastes of rich roasted grains, caramel, mocha, and real blueberries. Nothing artificial or fake about the smell and taste of the blueberries. Medium (maybe a touch thin) in body with medium carbonation. Out of the handful of blueberry stouts that I've tried, this is no doubt the best by a huge margin.

Love this beer, finally getting around to doing a review.

A: Black as it should be. A cream-soda-brown head that has great retention though lacing is relatively minimal.

S: One of the best parts of this beer. To me is smells like one of those sugary blueberry pie things you can get at a gas station. Those might be bad for you, but this is oh so good.

T: Taste is very malty-sweet. Dark barley malts are driving here, with the blueberry characteristics riding shotgun and chocolate flavors doing the annoying (delicious) back-seat driving.

M: Low carbonation, medium body. Not sticky but leaves a good lasting aftertaste.

D: Very drinkable. No alcohol presence, delicious flavors and an approachable mouthfeel. Not dangerous because of the low ABV, and simply sessionable if you wish.

Excellent stout from Dark Horse. Most peoples favorite of the Holiday Stout Series, though I'm also a fan of Too. Pick this up if you haven't tried it.

Pours a classic stout with a tinge of ruby on the otherwise carmel head.

Smells an awful lot like blueberry flavored coffee. You definitely know the tart blueberry is there but it's not too much.

Same as the nose. You get the sweet tartness up front but it's not overpowering and it's not overly sweetening. It's a blueberry pancake.

My initial reaction was that this had a bit too much carbonation. As I drink it though, don't feel the same.

Overall: Incredible beer. Such a unique offering and there's nothing to not like here. Dark Horse continues to outperform.
