Total Eclipse Breakfast StoutTotal Eclipse Breakfast Stout
Notes: Maumee Bay Brewing Company’s Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout is a hearty meal in a glass. As it pours, it devours the light and your glass is filled with darkness. This massive beer brewed with espresso beans (from Flying Rhino in Toledo, OH), oatmeal, and lactose offers a rich and complex taste that begs to be savored. With a smooth carbonation and luscious roasted malt flavor, you will fade to black as you slowly sip this finely crafted brew. We recommend serving at 45-50 degrees in your favorite snifter. It’s nothing but total bliss from Maumee Bay Brewing Co.

This is extremely mid and lowkey below average to me, the keg was just tapped today, the beer is light to medium body and the flavors are pretty muted, theres light notes of coffee but thats all that really stands out. Idk I'm not a big fan of this one

Barely see to the other side of the glass with this one. No head, little lace. Dark coffee. Poured from a can. Scent a bit like a chocolate mousse. Starting out to be like other outstanding stouts. The can does not say this is Imperal, but small print 9.1 ABV. "Breakfast" Implies oatmeal. Again, you gotta read the label to know this is also a coffee stout. I didn't know what to expect except the first pour told me. Thick, rich with minimal bitter is what was the mouthfeel with a wine-oat and deep coffee remainder. Yes. I'll have another and another..oh wait, it's an Imperial. Well, I'll have this as a sipper at the end of the night.

I wish I could say it any other way. It's winey, slightly bitter ring holds the rich chocolate and not too bracing "expresso" bean coffee and I've not seen "lactose" as an ingredient but maybe that's what makes this so rich and smooth. I remember when I was sampling a lot of these before IPAs really took center stage. One of the best Imperial Stouts I've had.

Maumee Bay Brewing serves up a winner with Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout. I poured it into a tulip glass and it produces a very nice head and retains lacing around the glass. The 9.1 ABV feels just right for this stout which can be enjoyed any time of day-not just for breakfast anymore! It has a great feel in the mouth, not incredibly thick, and it certainly doesn't taste overly boozy. We picked up a few 6 packs while visiting the Brewery in Toledo this past summer and it was a wise choice. This is a 2019 edition and true to its name, it does eclipse all light, swirling around in my glass in all of its inky black richness. The coffee flavor comes through cleanly and notes brown sugar, oatmeal and chocolate blend well. For fans of higher ABV stouts, this beer is a total eclipse … of the heart!

A - Rich dark body, tan head, persistent with moderate lacing creeping from the ring.

S - Strong coffee acidity, toasted malt, mild minerality.

T - The open starts like the nose, coffee and chocolate, roasted malts and a sweeter line, and a subtle bitter finish.

M - Brisk, good carbonation, with a sticky feel that dries out in the finish.

O - Superb coffee stout, truly delicious and great feel for a big ABV beer.

Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout brewed by Maumee Bay Brewing Company, with an ABV of 9.10% This American Imperial Stout pours from a 12oz bottle into a pint beer glass. The color is a deep brown color with a nice light brown head. This brew has the look of black coffee, not saying that is a bad thing. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with roasted grains and malts, with a slight sweetness. You also pick up in the smell is coffee an mirror hop bitterness. There is a lot going on in Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout. Now for the taste, it is Bold with Roasted goodness. You pick up on coffee notes as well as oatmeal notes. This all mixed with roasted grains, malts, an hops. A well put together Stout. The body of this Imperial Stout is medium to heavy, but not to heavy. This brew goes down nice an smooth. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. It is really hard to pick up on the 9.10 % ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Roasted, Clean, Smooth, an Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout a 4.50 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Maumee Bay Brewing Company, did a super nice job with this brew.

Dark body like anthracite coal and topped with a dense, creamy, light tan head. Heady aroma of sweet chocolate and cocoa powder; some dark fruit sweetness touches the nose. Incredible sweet and chocolate flavors; some vanilla and perhaps a coffee bitterness; little detectable alcohol presence; roasted grain backbone. Heavy body; thick and chewy; semi-sweet finish.

This is one outstanding breakfast stout, deep and rich with tons of depth and complexities to savor. The alcohol presence is pretty well masked by the lush sweetness and mild bitterness of chocolate and vanilla flavors and the mouthfeel just coats the palate with lingering softness and gentle sweetness. A must try from the Buckeye State...

Pours black with a finger of khaki, caramel-colored head. Head retention is okay with great lacing left behind. Aroma is roasted, toasted, and nutted malts with additional complexity-adding notes of chocolate, and caramel. There is a light body of medium-roast coffee as well. Roasted and nutted malts are the emphasis of the aroma. Flavor profile is roasted, and toasted malts come out first in the flavor profile and dominate the remainder of the flavor display. Nutted and earthy malts come to light more at the end. Medium-roast coffee kissed with char, chocolate, and light caramel round out the rest of this breakfast stout. Mouth feel is medium-thick in thickness, with a velvety feel that is broken up a touch by some harsh carbonation fizz at the back. Overall, a solid stout focused on being a great simplistic stout with a splash of coffee added.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

Damn what a surprise! I expected just a coffee stout but got this! Into a pint!
I am floored with this beer the smell cocoa nibs, chocolate, ground coffee espresso! Taste is so smooth! Can't believe it's been sitting in my fridge for like 4 months and it STILL drinks so good! Now full of regret knowing I probably can't get any more at lease I now know these guys make a banger breakfast stout!

Drinking in celebration of the 2017 eclipse. Awesome experience and a theme beer to match

A: black in color with a Rocky tan head. Beauty.

S: dark chocolate, rich espresso with brown sugar and some alcohol in the finish.

T: dark chocolate, and espresso coffee out swinging. Brown sugar in the finish as well as licorice.

M: medium thick, with plenty of carbonation. Slick finish.

O: a damn fine beer to end an incredible day.

Dark, robust and deep with ominous appearances and flavors, Maumee Bay brewers want to put a total eclipse over the session with an assertive stout that's laced with espresso, milk sugars and oatmeal.

Total Eclipse snuggles in the glass with a pitch black color and trailing with a creamy tan froth. Coffee, roast and a plethora of burnt sugars burry the nose in all things char; ahead of a taste of roasted nuttiness, coffee, molasses toffee and cream.

And then the stout opens up tremendously over the middle palate, saturating each tastebud with the smoky sweetness of espresso with heavy cream and brown sugar. Its charred grains and bold roast coffee mingle for an earthy soilish taste that hinges on tartness and bitterness. Strong alcohols present a whisky-like taste while a subtle suggestion of aspartame lingers.

Full and heavy, the beer's body is generously weighted, much to the delight of the sweet tooth. But its aggressive char highlights both a grain derived and coffee derived astringency that provides a harsh tannic bite in finish. A long and roasty aftertaste comes with the broad bitterness from hops for a session that gains complexity from its own immensity instead of variety of tastes.

12 oz brown bottle - not dated

Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout filled my snifter with an opaque black hue that formed a 1 1/2 finger tan head. The head reduced to a collar of foam and spotty lacing was formed on the walls of my glass. The nose was of coffee beans followed by chocolate and roasted malts. The taste matches the smell with coffee and chocolate upfront. The sweet flavor of malt is next with just a little bitterness from the hops at the finish. Mouth feel is a little smooth and somewhat chewy. Medium body for its style with a light carbonation.

Total Eclipse is a 'lighter weight' American Double/ Imperial Stout making it an easy drinker. My first brew from Maumee Bay and I like it.

This is a pretty new brewery and my first beer out of them.

Jet black with a pretty nice mocha head that retains fairly well.

Smell is pure chocolate with a small amount of vanilla and oak but is oddly watery.

Taste follows suit. There's a lot that wants to go on here but the brew is noticeable watery and the flavors are rather muted.

Feel is decently creamy but again, watery

Overall, I'm really disappointed. This beer wanted to break out and be great but it simply couldn't pull it off with the muted flavors.
