This is a staple beer. Poured in a snifter, immediately showing great frothy head and visible yeast sediment within it. A warm brown color. One of the first beers I tried as I initially stepped out of the mass marketed phony beers. Upon revisiting this beer, I found myself going back for more.

Smell: skunk (I love that) and toasty malt

Flavor: Nutty like a pecan and balanced with hops. There is a flavor drop off, but it keeps you sipping for more.

I really love this beer. I have had some American Imperial Brown Ales and they are so complex and delicious, but I have to say the simplicity of Belhaven Scottish Ale is more alluring. I recommend buying this one in the large bottle, pouring in a snifter and relishing the classic flavor it brings. I could probably drink a whole six pack, but slowly enjoying this beer is quite enjoyable.

US / International version. 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.2%. Beautiful clear copper colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Pleasant malty aroma, notes of caramel, fresh bread and pastry, hints of dark berries. Malty flavour too, some caramel but not too sweet, very moderate earthy hops. A true Scottish Ale. Will buy again.

Poured from their draught flow can (with a "special widget") a dark copper with a one finger fine creamy head, much like a nitro stout. The aroma was a little nutty and floral and light malt. Malty caramel flavor with a touch of nuts. Low hop bitterness. Feel is thick and velvety giving way to a lighter crispness that I did not expect. Low carbonation and very fine. This was quite a treat and I would buy this again.

From notes taken 09/23/17:

Dark and dull copper to bronze to burnt sienna, too light to constitute “ruby”. Extremely clear but with spongy flees in suspension. Beige to tan fine-foamed and dense but delicate head of good retention. Immediately detected a grainy skunkiness when I first popped the cap. It moves to more grainy, grassy, and floral notes. Interesting for the style, but I’m not sure how common. Have more experience with “Scotch” Ales than “Scottish” Ales. Toasted grain, hops are like earth and grass and bark. Light caramel and molasses aiding in the balance, with subdued alcoholic suggestions nearing the finish. Light in body, its carbonation starts as fine prickles and softens and tightens to an even finer velvet.

Pours out a clear copper color with a semi thick foamy off-white head. Lots of lacing around the glass.
The nose is nutty and malty. There is a little bit of molasses and caramel with an ever so faint hop bitterness. Smells fantastic.
The taste follows suit with the nuttiness. Again you get the molasses and caramel although toned down in sweetness. Finishes with a nice light bitterness.
Mouthfeel is smooth yet with a crisp carbonation. Works well.

I have been wanting to try this for a while. Sort of into malty beers at the moment, and this beer fits the bill.

Poured a pleasing copper brown into a tulip glass. Nice initial head and decent lacing. Smell of sweet malt. Taste of dark toast, caramel and a bit of toffee and some hazelnut. Good beer!

What is Vienna for lagers, that is Scottish ale among ales!
That flavor of roasted hazelnuts...OMG,Ferrero Rocher can only dream of having it!!!
To fully apreciate this beer, one has to have a broad knowledge of beers.
Had before 100+ good or great Scottish ales, but this one is closest to perfect beer.
Commercial descriptin said it all, but I would underline it's nutty flavor and spicines comming from fresh noble ale hops.
No shortcuts were taken in brewing this beer.
Wish i could get it on tap or as nitro can. That would be for all 5s!

This beer makes me want to transport to a pub in Scotland! Somehow, it is light and crispy but also sweet and smooth. It has just enough carbonation to tickle, a cool silky feel, and a slightly roasted nutty aftertaste. I could drink several like a lingering dessert but then it would be a bit heavy on the tummy.

Mild, rich, nutty, caramel aroma. Vigorous nito cascade on the pour, taking a minute or so to elevate back into the thick, bright white creamy head, with very good retention. Deep amber color, with only light carbonation. Very nitro-soft and moderate mouth feel. Nutty and smooth initial taste, with caramel and a subtle fruit coming out in the middle and finish. Very enjoyable, very nice, indeed.
