As mentioned in my previous review, a marked improvement over the Belhaven Best (both from cans). It's all in the taste which I appreciate is a very personal thing, but it hits all the buttons for me. Good prices at some of the discount stores.

Amber colored pour, off white 1/3" head. Aroma was grain and not much else.

Taste was pretty damn mild, easiest drinking scotch ale around (not necessarily a good thing). Just mild and earthy, tobacco, dirt, brown malt.

Not cheap either. Pass again.

First had this on draught at a friends pub. He served it ice cold with three limes. It hit the spot in the 33c temperature on the patio. Great beer if you can find it.

500 ml bottle served at Chester's beers of the world. Served fairly cold into a Belhaven pint glass.

Appearance - a murky ruby color with plenty of sediment floating around. Small amount of lace left behind after the small head recedes.

Smell - plenty of fruit maybe figs and plums with a substantial caramel malt aroma.

Taste- just like the nose some figs plums and prunes. Big dose of caramel before flavour which cascades away into a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - smooth and creamy yet light bodied. Decent carbonation that has a spritzy feel.

Overall - a worthy taste and a fine Scottish beer. Reminiscent of Abbot ale, but amped up a bit.

500 ml bottle purchased in St. Andrews and consumed in nearby Largoward.

Great looking ale, with an exceptionally clear red-brown body. The head is not large but has durability and leaves streaks of sticky lacing.

This is hoppy for style. There's a suggestion of this in the aroma, but it becomes most apparent from mid-taste on. Good interplay of hops and malts, with the balance seeming to changes from the from to the aftertaste as well as with warming.

Medium body with crisp carbonation.

O: more stimulating than watching golf.

Wonderful example of Scottish 60/ ale, low hops, ample malts.
