Notes: This deluxe stout is brewed for a full roasted chocolate flavour with a hop character that complements a blend of triple malts. Drink, savour and enjoy.

look: 2.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Black as black can be, as a good stout should be, but the half finger of head, complete lack of lace and zero retention does it no favors here.

Smell: Strong dark chocolate with pleasant smokiness and a hint of grassy peat. There also is a sweet toffee malt presence, but it's very subdued. Potency is quite good and warming brings it out even more.

Taste: Starts with a nice toffee malt note with a backing of dark chocolate that builds with a newly introduced smokiness with a touch of earth that then ends on a less then desirable swamp water snap. I suspect that is what is making that peaty note and it's not a good way to end the experience.

Mouthfeel: There is a smoothness to this beer which I've come to expect from Oatmeal stout, which I like. What I don't like is that smoothness gives that swampy flavor and almost, slithering quality over my tongue. Thankfully once it passes the dark chocolate aftertaste and bitter earth stays and thankfully never gets out of control. The carbonation is really low on this one, which is also another con I would say.

Drinkability: On the heavier end of medium bodied, which is a perfectly fine place for a milder stout to set up shop, but maybe not a 7% offering. It does have more a refreshing quality and a liquid meal quality of the style, but I'm ok with that. The lower carbonation lets it settle down well.

Final Thoughts: It's a passable oatmeal stout, that's the best I can say. The lower carbonation makes this offering very sedate, and the swamp touch makes in less then desirable. It's not outright bad, or offensive, and I'm sure someone's palate agrees with that note more then me. However, as it stands, I just wasn't impressed by this one.

I love what oats do for a stout, and this one is no exception. Smooth, rich, with mild sweetness. Great from nose to finish. Well done.

Great beer. Slightly boozier Mackeson Stout; Quite similar in most respects. Fantastic over-the-top upfront sweetness. Rich, creamy mouth feel; great head. Smooth finish. I often drive myself crazy trying to find sources for Mackeson, but truth be told, with a little cellaring, it might be difficult to tell these two apart. Based on my recent pours, I would probably say this has surpassed Blvd "Dark Truth" as #2 on my favs list, behind said Mackeson XXX. Nicely done Belhaven!

Very enjoyable. Texture is between light and medium, with soft carbtion. The first hit of flavor is a very pleasing sweet coffee like taste, with hints of chocolate, and fruity-prune like sweetness. While balance is probably more on the sweet side, it has a very nice bitter aftertaste that feels roasty/smokey.
Im not used to drink stout very often, and this is the first oat stout I try. I really enjoyed it, and surely will drink it again.

Very dark with a small beige head.

A nose on the blueberry and the roasted malts.
The taste follows with a big sweetness.
The oat brings a certain roundness.
Okay stout

Aromas of dark raisins, licorice, coffee, chocolate. Flavour mirrors the aromas with a hint of almost peaty smokiness. Appearance is very dark and initially had some nice froth but it didn't last very long. This tasted more like a porter to me than a stout but definitely enjoyable either way.

World Class Brew. I never knew Stout could taste this good. Similar to a dark porter. It works very well. I would say the best in the Belhaven range.

Pours a jet black brown with a two finger, rocky, beige colored head. No retention or lacing.

Aroma is of milk chocolate, currants, raisins, creamy oatmeal and a little bit of black licorice and caramel.

The body is medium in weight, smooth and silky, but not overtly heavy, giving the beer a creamy mouthfeel while still remaining crisp. This feels seriously velvety and sexy.

Starts off with flavors of creamy malted oats, sweet milk chocolate and slightly bitter light roast coffee. Notes of caramel and custard. A slightly tart, sugarplum flavor creeps in on the finish with more notes of milk chocolate towards the tail end. Faint notions of black licorice throughout the background.

My overall thoughts are mostly positive. This is a very easy drinking, silky and creamy oatmeal stout that leans towards the sweeter side of the style spectrum with flavors predominantly of milk chocolate, sugary oatmeal and dark fruit balanced out by mild notions of coffee and black licorice.

If it came in six packs I could see this being a staple in my fridge.

A: Nearly black, brown around edges in sunlight. 1/4 inch tan head. Seriously complex lacing.
S: Dark malts, with bitter hop fragrance initially with more anise later
T: Cane sugar overlying dark malts and early (bitter) hops.
M: Medium to full bodied with persistent light effervescence (like a quality sparking wine); maybe a tiny syrupiness.
O: Really a treat. Full disclosure: I like a good stout, but am nondenominational as to style.

Poured like coffee. Very little head. Really smooth, great mouth feel, slightly oily. Mild sweetness, oatmeal in the foreground, with a hint of dark chocolate and plum in the aftertaste. Great carbonation and really drinkable.
