GLASS: Sam Adams Shaped Pint Glass
TEMP: Cellared @ approx 45 degrees

Pours a very nice, ruby tinted, copper color. Almost two-finger head of light tan colored foam sits on top. Retention is great, leaving an 1/8 inch foam layer, all the way down. Lacing is full and fairly sticky.

The nose is mostly just rich, sweet maltiness. Light notes of caramel and vanilla. Very faint traces of butterscotch and bananas.

Delicious malty presence. Hints of toast and caramel. A nice, mild, spice presence. Mild dark fruit sweetness. Very subtle smoke notes, which brings about a mild taste of whiskey.
This is a very smoothly balanced brew and an excellent representation of the style.

While it is smooth, the body is a touch weak and thin, I think. The carbonation is a little much and this one could stand to be creamier.

Super-easy drinking, here. 6.5%ABV isn't too big to consume several of these in a sitting, either.
Rich and smooth, sweet, but not cloying, this one is a winner.

Brown color and clear. Off white, upward cascading head from the nitro pour. Nice thick lacing in splotches.

Sweet toffee aroma. Creamy.

Relatively dry (compared with the smell) with a touch of unexpected hop. Rich, made more so due to the nitro pour. Semisweet caramel flavor. Shorter aftertaste with a bit of alcohol showing up.

Extremely aromatic with a nicely rounded taste that sits so fine on the back of the throat. Perfect for a cold night next to a fire with a fine cigar and a dram of Glenfiddich

12 oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Clear dark mahogany color with a half-finger light tan head.

S: Sweet roasted malt - caramel, apple, toffee. A faint hint of cider vinegar in the background.

T: Follows. Caramel malt, toffee, and bread. Definitely sweet but not cloyingly so.

F: Medium-full bodied, creamy and lightly carbonated.

BEL HAVEN WEE HEAVY SCOTCH ALE 8/28/20

An oversight not to have reviewed this before. Have been buying it on and off for years. Poured from the 11.2 oz. bottle into an English nonick pint.

a: Clear dark copper with a finger thick white head which receded to even surface foam and spotty to dense lacing.

s: Sweet malt.

t; Mild Caramel malt.

m: Medium, good body and some carbonation tingle.

o: My favorite Scotch ale, the epitomy of the style.

12oz bottle into a tulip.

L: Clear garnet-brown body under an inch of soft tan froth. Decent retention, light lace. Quite pretty, particularly the color and clarity.

S: Butterscotch, toffee, overripe apple, candied orange. I'm having trouble getting past the buttery diacetyl and overripe fruit, but it's definitely rich.

T: Sweet up front, with dried fruit and caramel leading the way. Some toasted brown bread and warmth toward the back end. Bold and mouth-watering. Enjoyable.

F: Slick medium body with lively carbonation. The effervescence makes it feel lighter than it tastes. Slightly incongruous.

O: I like it, but its over-the-top sweetness heads off in tangents that distract from the core malt flavors I was expecting, and not always in entirely pleasant ways. Fun to try, but I doubt I'll seek it out again. Beer of Fame review 174/250.

Cheers!
