I was pleasently supprised when my brother-in-law brought me and the fam to this place. I new nothing about the extensive beer menu when we entered it but quickly noticed the many diverse beer advertisemtnes hung about the walls. we sat and i asked for a beer menu. Holy shit - 93 bottles of great beers! and about 12-15 on tap.

the food was good - easy eatin. sandwiches and stuff. I got the Turkey club and i cant complain. my father-in-law got the Big Ed's Chili and said it was great.

the atmosphere was there and if i lived in town i would definatly become a regular quick.

if you are in town - check it out.

This place is great, definitely a restaurant, but it has an amazing beer selection Everything from your English macro brews to smaller regional brews (Zipline, Boulevard) to great standards (delirium tremens).

Order the fish and chips, it's the best thing on the menu.

The food is average. The tap selection is also average. You can get some craft brews here, but not much of a selection. A decent lunch place to visit. But if you are in Dundee you are better off at French Bulldog, or Dario's especially for food, but also for brews.

Best fish and chips this side of the Mississippi! Not the greatest beer selection, English/Irish beers, and more of the "macro" micros (O'Dell, Boulevard, etc.). Of course, not a bad selection though. Great ambiance though, and located in one of the best neighborhoods in Omaha.

I live at University of Nebraska at Omaha and east of this university is the Dundee area. Dundee is a burrough that has less chain places and more local small businesses that Dundee dwellers enjoy. The dell is one of these places.

The dell is known for its fish and beer. The atmosphere is minimal: it has very little music and not loud. We were seated in a secluded room which was kind of disconnected from the rest of the environment characteristic of the dell. It does have a nice atmosphere in that it has music, kind of dark, and a friendly environment.

The quality of the products and service is good as the food, service, and selection are great.

I ordered fried fish of course; as thats what the Dell is known for. It was delicious. They have any condiment for fish you want; if you even feel like you need one given the food is so good in itself. Fries are great too. The food is pretty good so its a nice place to go.

The selection of food is good but the selection of beer is better.
Old Chicago has a better beer selection but the Dell's selection is decent. I ordered the Newcastle Brown Ale (from England) with my fish.

Its not too expensive to get yourself some beer and fish. Its pretty inexpensive actually.

One problem has to do with the service (even though I said its great). The waitress was kind of slow and seemed to not care about anything. I work in a similar setting and I at least try to seem like I care about the people I serve.

Give this place a try next time youre in the Dundee area! I promise you its good.

I'd heard good things about the Dell, and we lived in the neighborhood, so naturally this was one of the first place we checked out when we moved to Omaha.

It really didn't wow us in any way, in fact the service was abysmal and the beer selection...which had been touted by our friends...was poor, with New Belgium and Boulevard being the most interesting or rare brews, bleh. Their bottle menu started at $5, and were equally bleh.
Atmosphere is generic bar and booth combo with neon and tvs, fairly dark.
The service we got was terrible. We sat at the bar and waited while the guy texted on his phone for a minute, then he took our order. We asked for food menus, but took some time to get them, then we waited. Our beers were 2/3 done before he came back from the other side of the bar where he was again occupied with his cellphone. A few menu items interested us, but we passed, pissed for waiting so long.
Bartender was also snide and condescending to a gal that was also working; which we got to hear. So there's that too.

Paid for our pair of brews and we were out.

Stopped in on a Monday around 6:30. Not that much of a crowd and was able to get a comfortable spot at the lage horseshoe bar.

Nice "whiskey" and unique beer advertising decor. Very much enjoyed the mellow mainstream independent music - Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, etc..

Lots of beer but I struged to make a decison. On tap...
Guinness
Harp
Rogue Dead Guy
Sithwickls
Anchor Stream
Blue Moon
Boulevard Wheat
Lucky Bucket
Hopluia
New Belgium - Fat Tire, 1554, Seasonal
Newcastle
O'Dell IPA
SN Pale Ale

Lots of bottles but I prefer taps when it comes to a beer bar. I went with two O'Dell IPA's for $3 each.

Lots of dark wood and whiskey bottles on hand, which usually makes for a nice atmosphere where I'm concerned. Cool, u-shaped bar, with a side room off the main bar and seating area. Depending on when you go, seating can be at a premium, but most nights are pretty chill.

The selection and quality of beers on tap are marginal, certainly lesser than those at the Crescent Moon. Same stuff is at the core of the rotation. The bottled selection and older beers are interesting, and not half-bad for the area, but you'll have to ask, and probably wait.

Which brings me to another point: the wait time can be considerable at the Dell. Especially during peak hours. When you get served, order two.

Food is pretty great for general pub fare.

High recommendation for a visitor to the area. Locals probably already know the score, and know if it's their scene. Lots of college kids on Thurs-Sat nights, otherwise a more mature local populace.

Whilst visiting my sibs-in-law I ventured over to this lovely place that serves great beer and some good food. It has a somewhat rustic decor with all wood interior and vintage advertisements, but not over the top like some family restaurants you visit on a Friday. I was impressed with their scotch collection that was proudly displayed on a shelf stretching the length of the building. The menu was somewhat low key, nothing very fancy, but you don't pay for fancy. The selection of beer available was substantial. They even had a few Rogue's on tap. I wasn't feeling very daring beer wise since I was driving in an unfamiliar city, so I went with a Boulevard wheat, with fruit wedge. The waitress was good but seemed a tad distracted at times. This is definitely a repeat venture.

Well I stumbled into the Dell sight-unseen based on my memory of it being listed on BA, and upon the suggestion of my girlfriend's sister.

I found it decent, and a nice place to hang. It was comfortable and kind of darkish and woody. I found it very relaxed. I didn't have any food as I'd already eaten, but I thought the beer selection was good (...easy for me to say, being from out of town and finding lots of locals I hadn't tasted before!), and I thought they had a pretty good overall bar selection. Lots of whiskeys.

I'll certainly stop back if I get a chance!

Dundee Dell. A perfect place for a cold brew and reconnecting with old friends. It is impossible to deny that it has been infiltrated with people from "West O" who know think Dundee is "cool." Truth be told, it is.

The Dell has a great selection of Midwestern greats like Boulevard, New Belgium, etc. The food is decent enough when washed down with the beer that is always served with a smile.

Parking can be a problem on weekend nights, so I recomend walking. Then you can have an extra Fat Tire.

I couldn't agree more with Kernl's review (see below)...

I've always liked the Dell. I was just browsing through some of the Omaha beerfly locations that I haven't yet been too and I realized I had never offered a review on this fine establishment. I'll be nice and upfront about this fact, though: I don't come here for the beer, I come here to drink scotch.

The place is located on the main drag through Dundee. Parking is sometimes a hassle in this neighborhood, so be prepared to hoof it a block or two if you come during peak hours. Anyway, the building is fairly old and weathered looking inside. Huge fuck-off bar.

Service is fairly hit or miss, depending on what breed of hipster your waiter/waitress is. Honestly, I can't remark too much about how well they know their beer selection, or even how well I know it... I can say, however, that many of these folks know their whisky pretty damn well, and that there are hundreds to choose from.

As far as food goes, the final word lies with the reuben. One of my favorite reuben sandwiches in the town that invented it. Their other food is good too... typical pub fare, but you're not here for that.

Quite a find in Omaha, but go for the beer and the food, not for the atmosphere and certainly not for the service. The beer menu (bottles) contains dozens and dozens of choices, heavy on the imports and only a small handful of American breweries. Still, you'll undoubtedly find many things worth trying. The draught menu has about a dozen selections. The food is good-- I can recommend the fish and chips and my five-year-old daughter can recommend the mac and cheese. The service is spotty. The first night we had a waitress who hounded us literally every minute to take our drink order: "Are we ready yet?" "Have we made a decision?" My wife wanted to slug her. The second night was better because we had a different, less mechanized waitress. Still, she stopped paying attention to our table after bringing the food and only reappeared after we waved a credit card in the air.

I visited here on my second day in Omaha with Bditty187 as my tour guide. We met that afternoon at Upstream and he got a phone call from his girlfriend saying that she would like to meet us at Dundee Dell after she got off of work, so this became our second stop of the day.

This place first struck me as being more deep than wide, with the entry just to the right of the centerline, but once inside, I realized its deceptiveness. There was a wall to the right of the bar that opened onto a game room, the washrooms, and a dining area towards the front of the building, meaning that the place is approximately a square.

Once inside, we parked ourselves at the bar and I took the opportunity to just gaze around in wonder. I was told that their real claim to fame is Scotch whiskey (hello, therealbeerfly?), but they also had an impressive selection of beers: 13 on tap and approximately 175 in bottles. My, oh my. I tried to stick to regional beers that I just would not get outside of a trade, but there were a lot of quality beers available. The bar itself was much closer to a horseshoe/”U” shape than I had encountered for a while and in the overhead, above the left-hand side, hung two New Belgium beach cruiser bicycles. Strangely, there was a collection of A.L.R. (American Law Review?) books in shelves that ringed the bar. I kind of liked the way that part of the ambiance came from the central and back bars being lit with red lights. It was soothing. Their kitchen was straight back, past the bar.

Visited on a Friday night around 10:00. Table had just opened otherwise the seating was a little limited. The main bar room is a very long room. The bar sits is open on 3 sides and sits towards the back of the room. On the east side of the wall thier is a large collection of Guniess posters and the such. The bar does have a nice selection of brewania. On the way to the bathrooms you will find a game room with darts, pool tables, and i thought i saw foosball. The beer selection is fairly good. On tap are the usuals boulevard, fat tire, anchor, and about 5 more nothing exceptional. The list of bottles is quite comprehensive. This list may go a little bit heavy on the imports side. The food is very good. The fish and chips are delectable. The hot wings should also be tried, they have a nice tangy sauce to them. On the weekends parking sucks in dundee, so be prepared. But I perfer the parking problems to the propose parking garage so i wont bitch to much. A very nice establishment overall.

Regular visits to Omaha, NE have been a regular part of my work Calendar for the past 18+ months, so when time has permitted I have tried to visit as many of the BA BeerFly entries as possible.

But how the F*** did I end up visiting this most excellent establishment during (most probably for some time) my last visit. Damn!

Rather easy to find. A drive down Dodge Street (aka the “6”) peeling off North at 52nd Street soon had me on Underwood Avenue; as I drove East up the hill I found street parking (the angled version against the sidewalk type) rather easily at 7:30pm on my visit. I parked a short distance from the Dundee Dell & as I walked along the sidewalk the large windowed glass frontage reflected the setting sun like a large mirror & had me wondering what the inside looked like. The extreme heat of the evening was left behind as I entered the East doorway & A/C cooled main room. Once inside I just got that “great bar gut feel” - & I wasn't wrong!

The interior has a very laid back feel, I was greeted by a lovely young woman & asked if I could just sit at the Bar; sure enough I parked myself at the right side of the cool looking bar & promptly scanned the interior like a security camera in an attempt to memorize it for my upcoming BeerFly.

As you enter the large rectangular single room from the left hand side Eastern entrance, it stretches further back than it does sideways; you cannot help but be drawn to the bar area, it is the focal point here & very distinctive. The bar area is a large U-shape affair that breaks forward from the back wall, 5 or 6 high stools run down the left & right hand sides. The back of the Bar has a phenomenal looking series of black shelving set against a wood clad back wall, some 10 shelves high to the ceiling such that it has a library rolling staircase attachment on it. Overall the shelves form a massive “M” shape décor for the entire back wall. These shelves are festooned with a myriad of bottled Whisky’s, some 490 Single Malts in total including a 50yr old Macallan according to the chap at the bar [they hold monthly Whisky tastings here]. The lower space of the left hand part of the “M” shelving hides a twin bank glass-door cooler which houses some 100+ bottled beers. The right hand part of the “M” back bar shelving has a doorway that must lead to a back room & perhaps the adjacent kitchen to the right. As you enter the Dundee, all but the back walls have a Brown Café painted appearance. The left hand side front has a corner full of wooden tables and booths which sit underneath a wall covered in Guinness Adverts, further down the left a chimney breast contains a large TV and beyond that one of those Internet Jukeboxes & even a Cigarette vending machine fill the walls. To the right the front area has a nice arrangement of tables & chairs laid out for the diners. Further down on the right, two open archways opposite the Bar lead to a small room offset to the main area which contains a Pool Table, some Fruit/Video games & the entrances to the restrooms. I sat at the right hand side of the Bar; staring at me was a massive framed Samuel Smiths sign, right off the side of one of the UK Delivery Trucks according to Dave at the Bar, plus a Bass clock, a painting of a naked woman & three Whisky Butt Ends from Glenmorangie, Islay & Macallan. Four dark green painted single bookshelves filled with well known tomes also fill the four corners of the Dundee. This place really has lots of atmosphere & tonnes of real character.

Beer range is superb. Two 7 bank taps dispense 14 drafts, a nice range of brews that appeal to all, some domestic/import macros & a good mix of micros, including a few from New Belgium. But the bottled beer list of some 120+ brews hides some marvels. A fantastic mix of brews far too many to mention but the highlights are from Poland/Czech Rep./Germany/France/Belgium/Mexico/USA/Scotland/Ireland/Lithuania & England including the full range of Sam Smiths & even a 1998 Thomas Hardys. A nice range of saisons & lambics plus Boon Faro too! The Beer Menu is well laid out & easy to follow. Prices are good, $3.50 for 16 oz Pints and around $11 for Pitchers with $3 Fridays, plus bottles are typically $4 upto $15 for the rarer 750’s.

Food menu is enticing, the two piece fish & chips at $6 were superb, great value & the Malt Vinegar is in ample supply.

One guy pretty much looked after me for the 4 hours I was there, Dave was the business, attentive to Customers needs & chatted when he had time, the consummate professional, top quality service – I have add that he graciously offered me a bottle of La Trappe (old label) Dubbel Free Gratis when I asked about the older beers that he had! 5-Star Service!! Extremely Friendly - So Hard to leave here.

I could go on verbatim...but the word count won’t let me. Simply put I was highly impressed by the Dundee Dell, so sad that I only got here on probably my last visit to Omaha for some time.

Highly Recommended.

Last Visit: Tuesday 2nd August, 2005.

I am sorry but the Dell's beer selection isn't that good. The beer menu is stale with no "hip" beers on it. A good number of the beers listed are not distributed in Nebraska any longer so how old are they? Also hopheads be forwarded... there are no IPAs on the menu!

The food here is good but it is always slow coming out of the kitchen. The fish & chips are quite nice and the cheese sticks are a great apitizer. Much of the menu doesn't do much for me so I end up getting the same couple things over and over again.

I don't go to the Dell often as I see no need. It is not my kind of hangout there is a loyal following. The clientele is a mix of young, trendy college students and more mature folks from the neighborhood.

The atmosphere is classic pub. Large bar in the back of the main room with booths and tables scatter about. Off in one nook is a pool table and darts. In another nook is a tasting room. Mix in a jut box and a big screen TV and you got the makings of a loud, but sometimes, fun place to hang out.

Service here is spotty at best. Slow and inattentive has, sadly, been all too common. I order a Thomas Hardy once and they didn't bring me a glass. Hell, they never bring a glass when I order a bottled beer!

All in all, the Dell, for me, is a place I visit maybe twice a year when I am in the neighborhood or I really want some fish n chips.

This neighborhood bar in the Dundee section of Omaha has a really great selection of beers, mostly bottled. They do have a small selection of beers on tap with Boulevard Beer from KC (great), Anchor Steam (great) and the usual suspects (blech). The carry most of the Belgian beers that Venberg and DeWulf import. They have a nice beerlist that not only tells what beers they have but also gives tasting notes.

They are known far and wide for the scotch selection which they say is the largest in the country. It takes up an entire wall and is a site to see. The other thing that they are known for is their fish and chips. In the 6 months I spent in Omaha I practically lived on Fish and Chips and Ommegang Abbey Ale

The bar staff is friendly and very knowledgable. It's my favorite place in town... and I spent 6 months eating out in Omaha.
