What a quirky place this is, just on the outskirts of downtown.

You go in the front door and a massive bar dominates on the left side - nothing odd about that - but then once you take your seat and look down beyond the bar there is a huge library of old books and tables.

The sign on the door says this is a coffee house and that part might fit a college town independent coffee shop but whoever saw a coffee shop that was dominated by a bar in the front.

Anyhow, I went in after five o'clock so all the patrons (and it appears that everyone is a regular) was sitting at the bar - a funky crowd of twenty- and thirty-somethings. Do they also gather for coffee earlier in the day? Who knows?

Despite the age of the crowd, the bartender loves his sixties and early seventies music and fills the air with Otis Redding and Allman Brothers tunes. That's perfectly fine with me as that is my music, too.

On to the beers. The selection is small, but good, with both taps and bottles. The main reason to go here, however, is that they have four Barrel House taps, including, while I was there, the interesting, though flawed, Boss Cox Double Dark IPA. A quirky beer for a quirky bar. I enjoyed it!

Stopped in this place oddly enough for a coffee as I was in the area in the morning checking out a few places and needed the pick me up. A pretty cool little place, with as you guessed some really great coffee. Wondered around to see how effective it would be as a beer bar, not very was the opinion I cam up with. The selection was mostly local with only a couple taps and all were various Barrelhouse brews, not that that was a bad thing at all. There was a morning crowd in there so I do not know what it would be like in the afternoon or evening hours. Overall though I do not think I will be making the trip back here, does not seem like the kind of place I would need to frequent.

They advertise this place as a coffee house... but at night it's a neat downtown bar with it's own regulars. It's a long narrow room with a large bar down one side. They have entertainment on Wednesdays through Saturdays.

This place is a must see during Cincinnati's Bock Fest. The Bier Band played here this past year (March, 2006) after the parade... it was PACKED! What a fun crowd. Usually this place isn't nearly as crowded.

They have good beers on tap and the capable bartenders keep up with demand. They also know how to pour a beer. They keep a few Barrel House selections on tap. Barrel House used to have their own Brew Pub in the Main Street Bar district but closed down to favor their brewing expertise. They've got some nice brews.
