Notes / Commercial Description:
We initially released BORIS The Crusher Oatmeal-Imperial Stout when we first opened our brewery's doors over 8 years ago, and it instantly became our biggest seller. This is one of my all time favorite beers, and definitely my favorite beer from Hoppin' Frog

L; this beer is dark and heavy black with no light shining through it and a very small brown ring of head.

S; You really smell the mocha scents in this beer along with the intense bourbon from being aged so long.

T: Simply amazing flavor! chocolate and nut flavors as this thick beer coats your pallet (i don't recomend drinking anything too light after this heavy beer) You can taste the intense booze flavor from the whiskey barrels but its not too overpowering. just a small sip and you'll be tasting this beer for the next hour and won't be disappointed!

F: This beer makes me smile every time a crack open a bottle which i save for special occasions.

If you have a chance to try this in a share or a trade you should absolutely do it!

Very heavily flavored stout. Extra aging does wonders to this beer; they should do this more often. Flavors of cinnamon and licorice present. Barrel aging bourbon present, though not overbearing. Best Hoppin frog offering I've had. Would like to have again.

Bomber. Pours black with thin mocha head. Bourbon is present in the sugary chocolate aroma. Taste is deep rich chocolate and bourbon, wood is there but subtle. Silky oily mouthfeel. Very nice barrel aged stout, glides down.

Pours with some viscosity, generating a few inches of mocha head. Modest retention. Smell is nougat, roast malts, chocolate, oak, bourbon sans heat, demerara sugar. But taste definitely skews less in the sweet direction and more in the roasted malt and barrel. Incredibly smooth, balanced ... benefits from sipping and contemplation but it's so damned easy to drink you'll find the bottle disappears quickly. Was that really 22 ounces?!? Full bodied - though, at under 10%, don't expect sludge - with no heat from the extended aging.

In the ever escalating ABV games, it's refreshing to find a barrel aged stout of this quality coming in at under 10%.

Black, but with burnt red edges, a little transparency here is a slight departure from their other stouts. A dark brown layer of carbonation fizzles out pretty quickly after the pour.

Smell is phenomenal. Maple drenched nuts. Cacao. Oak is just massive as it warms.

Booze makes itself known in the taste but is never overpowering--this is really drinkable and luscious. That maple element from the barrel kicks in pretty powerfully, with tons of oak, and chocolate covered nuts. Wow!

While not as thick as the base beer, the age has made this viscous and sticky. 200 has such a great mouthfeel and it only gets better as it warms.

This is by far their best barrel-aged stout in my opinion. The time they took to age this beer made this far smoother and less boozy than almost any BA stout I've had. If bourbony beer isn't your thing, this may alter your outlook that, when done right, it can truly transform a beer without overpowering it.

Didn't know this existed until it was offered to me in a trade, but I love reg, BA, and Royale (van wink was not as good and over hyped) so I thought I'd give it a try. I haven't had BA BORIS in a couple years, but comparing it to memory it's just as awesome, but not more awesome. BA BORIS is great, so this is not a negative review, but idk if the extra barrel treatment did much.

EDIT: After letting it warm to room temp (currently 80°F) I think there is more barrel, but not more bourbon.

This beer is in a whole nether planet when compared to regular barrel aged boris. The nose is way better and the flavor is just so much better, so much more whiskey...recommend!

I wasn't sold that aging BA BORIS that much longer would improve it that much but I was wrong. The aroma is fantastic and the mouthfeel was spot on. Definitely not boozy.

This was bought at the brewery and consumed within 3 days.
