This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing. It doesn't factor into the rating, but I'm very happy Hoppin' Frog is now bottling their stouts in smaller formar. 12 oz is way more appropriate.

This smells like earthy and semi-sweet maple, chocolate candy, roast, nutty whiskey, and brown sugar.

This is really unique and interesting take on the B.O.R.I.S. base, as the maple adds a great earthy sweetness that balances the heavy roast and dark chocolate of the base beers. There's lots of whiskey, but it melds well with everything else here. There's just a wonderful chocolate-covered maple candy vibe, and I can get down with that anyday.

This is medium bodied, creamy, and fairly thick, with no hint of the booze anywhere. It's surprisingly drinkable.

I still love this brewery quite a bit- they don't let me down with their stouts.

Pours into a snifter jet black with no light getting thru,a thin deep beige head atop. The maple and sweet Canadian whiskey shows thru in the nose,a nice dose of chocolate is there as well.Thick and and slick in a good way in the mouth, glides down easy with good body.Whiskey tinged with maple playing a supportive role mixed in with deep chocolate notes with nutty-like finish.I'am Canadian whiskey and maple fan so this hit home nicely with me,a very nice infused impy stout here.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.

A: Nice chocolate head that is pretty decent in size settles to a film. Body is a glass mirror of black, just perfect dark object.

S: Some weak barrel a light hint if oak, and some maple, a little leather.

T: It starts out with light hints of maple and oak and as it hits mid tongue it just totally drowns you in flavor of leather, dry oak, honey, almost nutty.

M: Dry smooth full bodied but very smooth.

O: The maple comes out huge on the tongue, but then mid palate you realize you have an absolute delight in your hands with oak, leather, and honey pouring it and it finishes so dry and smooth.

Very thick and full-bodied stout. Nice dark brown head with rest being as black as night. Maple is more of a complimentary flavor but it feels like it should have been more of a featured taste. Whiskey barrel character seems milder than usual, again not bad, but was hoping for more of a bold presence. Overall this beer is very good, heavy and enjoyable, but I still feel like it had potential to be amazing.

Stark black with a creamy tan head fading to a thick ring.

Smell starts with classic BORIS--nutty roast with dark chocolate--accented by light maple and the vanilla influence of whiskey oak.

A waxy bourbon oak presence is not shy on the palate--this is possibly their most whiskey-forward BORIS treatment yet. Some heat comes with a smooth vanilla oak and dark fruit, as the swallow has chocolatey roasted malt.

Creamy, medium to thick bodied with a slightly stinging, semi-dry finish, the maple comes out, sweetens and thickens this brew as it warms.
