Pours a super dark black color with brown coming through the edges. It has a big brown head that leaves good stick lace. The nose is mainly of molasses and it has less burrnt and roasted characters than I expect with RIS's. The taste has a nice higly roasted and burnt fla or to it. Very to style. Very creamy, which I suppose is from the oatmeal. Heavy body. Finished sweet with lingering roastiness. It doesn't taste too young...I wonder how age would affect this beer.

Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Inky black pour with thin brown head. Nice ring of lacing.

S: Roast... sweet burned sugars, espresso, and cocoa.

T/F: Bittersweet... strong roasted grains/sugars... coffee and dark chocolate keep up the bitter/sweet theme. Faint dark fruit, but mostly cocoa and espresso. A little harsh but it gets better/more complex as it warms. The ABV is hidden... creamy and medium bodied. Complex and tasty.

O: A rock solid Russian Imperial Stout. Big flavor and a great cold weather beer.

Very dark, almoust black, engine oil with just a little head that’s on the top like golden-brown whipped cream.

Nose: Coffee, toffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, mocha, leather, kakao and dark syrup. Almoust a little sour nose.

Taste: Wow! This is f-ing awesome! Sweet coffee, oatmeal, brownies, boubon , vanilla, red berries and dried fruit.

Mouth: Large complex body with smooth, silky taste. Very soft carbonation.

This is almoust a perfect stout. I’m glad I bought 7 bottles (six to cellar)

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours midnight dark; light cannot penetrate this beast. Pours with a 1/4" tan head that reduces to a thin blanket cover keeping it warm.

Has a warm roasted aroma, coffee, toffee, even a little vanilla extract. Smells like dessert, with a hint of alcohol warmth to its smell.

Tastes of dark currants, apples, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans, with alcohol warming its descent. Sweet, yet toasted in flavor. A nice nippy hop flavor finishes it, grabbing the tongue with slight astringency.

This is a thick-tasting beer, rich and full in the mouth. I have other Hopping Frog beers already in the cellar (they're easy pickings around here, given that it is an Akron brewery), otherwise I'd get another the next time I was out.

Solid black color, above average bidy. Seems to have a decent creamy thick feel. Aroma is alcohol, malt, coffee, chocolate, and a little dark fruit. Taste is very identical, the alcohol comes off strong and dominates. Overall it's very good but the alcohol is well hidden and masks some of the other flavors

Pours pitch black with a brown head that is well-retained. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of coffee, dark malt, dark fruit, a hint of booze.

The taste is of coffee with eathy/bready notes, some anise, some chocolate, a bit of citrus. Light roast is there, but not nearly in a burnt way. Well-hopped for a dark malty brew. Finishes long and bittersweet. Absolutely delicious!

Full-bodied and silky, this is smooth - almost no astringency here.

The hype is deserved, and then some. An awesome brew! The light booze in the aroma is covered in the taste. It has a deceptively drinkable character. A great beer!

22 ounce bottle acquired in a trade with pimpp, thanks for giving me the opportunity to try this brew, split with my Buddy Drake, poured into Guinness pub glass

A-Black and I mean black color, you can barely see light through the one inch dark tan soapy head, stuck around for almost ten minutes, nice retention, some great lacing at the beginning

S-Aroma was all over the place but still pretty inviting, chocolate, sweetness, booze, grains, raisins, tobacco, black licorice, espresso, burned accents, caramel, toffee, and vanilla

T-Started off with a big dark chocolate and coffee taste, more chewiness and grains in the middle than I thought there would be, some dryness in the finish with a hint of vanilla and sweetness, no booze whatsoever and it was not too roasty either, very nice balance overall, would have liked to see some more hops in this one but it was still pretty good just the way it was

M-Dry, slightly sweet, roasty, and chewy mouthfeel, full bodied, average level of carbonation for this style, taste did linger a while though

D-Probably could drink the bottle by myself, had about ten ounces and that was enough for me, strong and heavy on the stomach, nearly ten percent so it will catch up to you, smooth though, all alcohol was hidden surprisingly

Heard a lot hype about this one and I agree with the majority of it, one of the better oatmeal stouts I have tasted, definitely one of the stronger ones, could possibly make a serious black and tan if you are into those, would definitely drink again, recommended

22oz bottle flown home from Chicago by my wife. No dates that I see, but if it's an RIS, I won't worry too much. Split between a pair of large snifters.

Pours black with a medium brown head that fades fairly quickly to a brown sheet. Smell is anise and coffee. Yeast, and maybe a little cherry.

Taste is mild cherry sweetness up front with a little oatmeal, and a strong bitter roasty finish.

Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Overall, very nice beer.

22oz bottle traded to me over a year ago by a generous BA. Poured into 25oz snifter.

A: Pours black with a rather thin and fizzy dark brown head that left little lacing.
S: Notes of roasted oats, rich dark malts, and a touch of dark chocolate syrup and alcohol.
T: Thick rich notes of dark chocolate, fudge even, mixed with roasted oats and sweet maple syrup. I get notes of bitter coffee in the finish, and the aftertaste has a touch of sweet fruit and warm alcohol.
M: Thick and chewy mouthfeel with a full body and tingly carbonation. It's not the thickest, and it's not the chewiest, but it sure is good. Others have said "meal in a bottle", I agree.
D: The flaws in this one are very nitpicky as I am very impressed. I can't wait to try the other variations!
