reviewed from notes. 05/02/08

This beer poured a pitch black body with traces of yellow around the rim with a tan head that died somewhat quickly.

Nose was a mix of dark roasted malt, coffee, sweet dark chocolate, raisins, oats, dates and a mild sting of alcohol. An interesting and very unique imperial stout smell. The oats give it a strange, oat taste, that's foreign in other beers like this.

Taste is full bodied and very rich. A big strong hop bitterness and numbing quality immediately stand out as waves of dark roasted malts flow in behind it. Dark malt, dark bitter coffee, dark chocolate, dark raisins or dates and even a faint wood quality. The oatmeal aspect of this beer is a bit more muted in the taste, but it definitely has hints of that milky, chewy, oat-like, oatmeal taste. It fits nicely into the imperial stout setting. It ends with a lingering dark roasted malt bitterness.

An interesting beer. An imperial stout with traces of oatmeal stout. It works, but at the same time, I'm not sure if it does. The oatmeal sort of feels like it doesn't belong in the imperial stout, or maybe I'm just too used to imperials a certain. Anyway... a good beer none the less.

Thanks to BigBlacke for supplying this one at a tasting!

A-black, thin tan head

S-strong dark roasted malts. a tad boozey smelling. smells like quite a serious stout!

T-comes in with really deep and strong roasted malts. there's a large booziness of coffee and chocolate malts much like many of the imperial stout that I've had. the oats don't really come in til the after-taste along with some chocolate notes. overall, its a good imperial stout though i don't know if it compares to many of the others that i've tasted

M-low carbonation with a fairly dry finish

D-this is definitely a sipper and its not my stout of choice. the tastes do stay well but a whole bomber of this is just too much.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. I've had this bottle for about two years at least, before I found it in a box recently. Beer pours pitch black with a finger of dark brown creamy head. Head dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing, to a thin collar of foam around the edges. Good amount of alcohol legs when swirled.

Nose is dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge, roasted malt, savory soy sauce, dark fruit.

Taking a sip, roasted malt, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, mellowing to sweeter fudge and cocoa. Some dark fruit sweetness mid tongue. Finishes with a salty and savory soy sauce along with the roasted malt and dark chocolate flavor, lingering for a bit on the tongue.

Full body, thick and creamy with moderate carbonation. Plenty of body and mouthfeel from being an oatmeal stout. Alcohol is non existent, making the beer really smooth and easy to drink right now.

1 year old bottle aged in the beer fridge.

Dark black with a rich dark chocolate 1-finger head. Very faint lace, though.

Aroma is very rich cocoa with strong hints of mocha. Very little in the way of anise. Vanilla and a slight woodiness round things out. Faint hint of alcohol, too.

Strong dark chocolate malt flavor. Weaker roast coffee. Nice hops in the finish, with a hint of pine and a sharp bite from the chocolate malt. Hint of alcohol in the finish, but not as strong as the abv would suggest.

Feel is weaker than expected, more of a porter than a stout.

Fairly easy drinker for a big beer.

A delicious, mellow, roasted treat. Not much of a head on the black brown opaque fluid. What there is is tight and firm, dark tan in color. Smell is roasty and sweet with malt and oats, chocolate and toasted coconut. A superb light banana like fruitiness. Taste is full of mocha and mild chocolate. Coffee bitterness fuses with roasted oats to form a rich luxurious bed for the sweeter flavors to play out. Caramel and burnt sugar flow gently underneath. That faint banana again. Finish is smooth and mellow with a firm hop bittering that moves into a delicious dark bready malt lingering. It keeps the coffee and oats on the palate. Feel is full and thick with a superb carbonation that keeps it lively on your tongue. A very easy going sipper. There is no trace of the alcohol and it goes down like a much lighter beer.

Thanks to the leftmindedrighty for this one.

This one pours a deep dark black with a dark tan collar that's revitalized with a swirl.

Smells of chocolate milk, a touch of espresso, light cherry and creamy oatmeal with a light astringent alcohol.

Tastes of big dark chocolate, day old coffee, sour dark fruit, sweet cream and a light dry sting.

Feels light with a tingly carbonation that froths up a bit in my mouth, but over all it feels thin and slick.

A tasty mix of flavors and easy to drink.

pours a pitch black with just a little bit of tan foam that quickly faded into a ring of bubbles around the glass
Lots of roasted malts, chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla along with a bit of a burnt aroma
Nice smooth roasted malts, hints of chocolate and vanilla and a bit of caramel. Very nice flavor
Very silky smooth mouthfeel, just a bit of carbonation and not overly heavy body
Very drinkable and very enjoyable. Glad I finally drank this one.
