Have had this brew many times over the years but pushed off taking notes as I would certainly have it again, and again. Now is finally the time.

A- Pitch black, thick and oily pour from the bomber into a narrow stange. A light tan head forms with a thick and frothy texture to about a finger high. Good head retention and a wide ring drops webs of lace at each sip.

S- Like a very rich and intense brownie. The grains bring both deep darkened tones and nutty hints. Honestly like a brownie with pecans. Cocoa, deep roast coffee, burnt barley, dark yet sweet chocolates, vanilla sweets and general chocolate chip cookie.Just a hint of hops. Oh the oats come out with warmth big time.

T- Much like the aroma the overall flavor profile is akin to a rich and nutty dark chocolate cookie or brownie. General balance between the rich malty flavors of charred barley, burnt grain, toasted oats, caramel malts, medium sweetness and toast. Rich chocolate and coffee come into play and balance well with a vanilla bean sweetness. An oat based brownie with heavy chocolate and general charred flavors.

MF- Really thick and perhaps the best part about this beer beyond the very excellent flavor. Just chewy, silky and all things smooth. The carbonation is fairly high but so smoothed out. Ends with a very subtle hop bitterness as well as some burnt bitters lingering.

No idea how I never got around to making this official. BORIS is a true classic and one of the best plain, no frills RIS on the market. Just a decadent, perfect mouthfeel with the flavor profile resembling a brownie filled with toasted nuts.

Pours a thick, opaque black with a one finger brown sugar color head. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark fruit, with dark jam like sweetness and vanilla. Taste is big dark chocolate, roast malt, dark fruit, vanilla, and a finish of coffee/espresso, and some bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and fully mouthcoating. Overall, this is an excellent oatmeal imperial stout that lives up to its name, reputation, and awards.

Poured into a 16 oz Woodstock Inn Brewery snifter not sure when it was bottled. Pours a very slick black with a massive 2 plus finger sticky brown head, that leaves loads of lace behind.

Smell is dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted coffee beans, figs, molasses, and some hints of booze.

Taste follows huge roasty expresso up front, dark chocolate, vanilla, some dark fruit and warming alcohol.

Mouthfeel is almost large, enough life, a touch dry, and a complex sipper that goes down to fast.

Overall this thing is really awesome, delivers in every category.

Pours a deep brown/black with a thin cola colored head. The head doesn't last long but there is some nice lacing. The smell is roasts, leather, chocolate and toffee. In a word fantastic. All of that transfers to the taste. The roasts are actually quite mellow on taste and the chocolate really comes through. I love the way the leather translates to flavor. Smooth is the strongest word I would use to describe this. The carbonation is medium low and there is just a nice creaminess to it.

Okay, obviously I liked this beer. It really did live up to its hype and it tastes even better with age on it. If you get a chance, grab it.
