22 oz. bottle with almost the same label as the other Hoppin' Frog bottles, except this one has a different name (duh) and the frog is toasting a pint glass filled with a black beer on top (BORIS) and a red beer on the bottom (IPA). Other than those differences, it has the usual name of the brewery with the "o" replaced by a pint of yellow beer, the hopping green frog toasting a pint of beer, Ohio brewers red mark, and the ABV % content. To the left of the picture is the Government warning, address of the brewery, and their wed address. To the right is a little blurb about the beer, it's specifications of 7.6% ABV, 81 OG, 25 FG, 65 IBU, and another picture of their hoppin' frog while toasting a pint of yellow beer. Like all the other Hoppin' Frog bottles, this one doesn't have a date either. They say that this beer is 67% IPA and 33% Stout (BORIS). It was served in a Brooklyn/Winking Lizard Imperial pint glass.

Appearance: The Bodacious Black & Tan poured a deep dark chestnut brown with tons of cranberry red highlights all through out the beer. It easily had a 2 to 2 and a half inch head of an off white head of pillowy foam. The head of foam had excellent retention that left behind a small white bubbly film, foamy white rings along the edge of the beer, and a few white streaks of sticky lace around the glass. The color that they have in the pitcher of beer is correct. That is if they combined both of those 2 inks.

Smell: It started off with a mild soft aroma of pine needles, a few raisins, grapefruit, a lemon peel, and some dark roasted malts in the background. After the beer really warms up, all those citrus aromas disappear from this beer and the only thing remains is the dark roasted malts with a pinch of bitter dark chocolate and caramel at the end. I guess this means that after you get pass the IPA at the top, you go straight to the tiny aroma of the BORIS that's been hiding in the back. Somewhat unusual.

Taste: Like the aroma, the taste started off the IPA and then went straight to a few elements that their BORIS stout holds. It first started off with a pinch of grapefruit, a few pine needles, a splash of lemon peel, and then ended with some bitter citrus hops. After the IPA has passed, then out comes the BORIS, but only in a few small elements. That means the beer ended with a a touch of bitter dark chocolate, a small dab caramel, a raisin or two, and a few dark roasted malts. I don't think the BORIS stout balanced out the IPA. All it did was just add a few dark roasted and sweet flavors to it.

Mouthfeel: I would have to say that this one is medium bodied with a long lived aftertaste of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, and some citrus hops. The aftertaste had more BORIS stout aspects to it than the IPA had. You can't feel the beer go to work on your body, but I don't think you were supposed to feel anything.

Drinkability: I'm really not too sure about this one. I know not many breweries do a take on a black and tan, but I can understand why they don't. It's probably one of the better bottled Black & Tans out on the markets now, but I don't want to spend another $7 for another one. It would be easier and cheaper to make one for yourself. If you love taking your micro beers and making them into a black and tan, then you might like this one. For me, I'm done with this one.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 7.6%. A blend of 67% IPA and 33% stout. Black colour, moderate beige head. Nice aroma of fruity American hops, just a hint of roastiness. Pleasant roasty and very hoppy flavour.

Cola brown with a bubbly tan ring.

There's not a lot of aroma, where I'm getting mild notes of a toasted Nut Brown.

Taste brings the unusual element of the "tan" part that Frog chooses to use, which adds the spiced orange of Gangster Frog with an expected hint of green tea to a mild roast, mixed nuts and a toastiness on the back end.

Crisp yet frothy with a medium body and a semi-dry to dry finish. It is what it is, a blend that's not really defined.
