Turbo Shandy - Lemon-Lime

Considering regular Turbo is lemon-centric, you'd think this wouldn't be a drastic departure, but it actually is, with a tart lime zest presence that, when combined with the shandy base, turns into a lime Skittle! This was a fun and fitting kick off to the weather FINALLY turning.

A thanks to the reigning champion of canned beer, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is just like a sprite. Taste is lemon lime, a bit on the sweet side, and zero alcohol for a 7% beer. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall it's not bad, but a bit to sweet for my liking.

 

A: Pours a lightly hazy pale lemon yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and a faint bright yellow + pale golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy foamy white head that quickly reduces to a small patch of very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of sweet lemon citrus + tart lime citrus + lime zest citrus over the top of light aromas of grainy malts and a light amount of soda-like sweetness.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of grainy malts and a light amount of soda-like sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of sweet lemon citrus + tart lime citrus + lime zest citrus. No perceptible hop presence and minimal bitterness present.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: Easy to drink with really well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable and refreshing, perfect after going to a long vigorous walk in the fairly hot muggy weather.

 

 

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/12/2018. Pours lightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lightly tart/tangy lemonade, lime, citrus peel/zest, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of lemon/lime, pale/wheat malt, and light earthy hop/yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart/tangy lemonade, lime, citrus peel/zest, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy/citrus peel bitterness and citrus tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy lemonade, lime, citrus peel/zest, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome robustness and balance of lemon/lime, pale/wheat malt, and light earthy hop/yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitter/tartness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitter/tartness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an outstanding imperial shandy style! All around awesome robustness and balance of lemon/lime, pale/wheat malt, and light earthy hop/yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink for the ABV. Drinks more like a session beer. Outstanding citrus vibrancy, solid pale/wheat malt backbone, and no residual sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. All variations have been consistently impressive. Some of the best for the style.
