Dark chocolate with a reddish tint around the edges. Soft pour yields a fat sand color head.

Aroma of berries, malt and a hint of smoke. Not particularly strong scent.

Dry chocolate up front with a slight fruity sweetness toward the end.

Mouthfeel is a bit of a letdown. On the watery side. Expected more out of a beer with "silk" in the name.

Overall not bad but had higher hopes. Could have been more robust all around.

Pours black with very little head. Smells of dark fruit, roasted malt, hint of chocolate. Flavor is heavy on the chocolate, with medium and very smooth mouthfeel. It seems as though there is lactose present in this. Right amount of medium carbonation. Bit of a lasting hop presence. Nice beer. This doesn't have the same character and bite as the Cafe version, but is decent all around.

Aroma is dark malts, fruit and bananas. The flavor is bananas, chocolate, malts, fruit and a mix of acidity and tartness in the finish.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into pint glass in July 2017. There was no bottled on date, and I drank it about 1 monthafter purchase.

Appearance: Very dark black with a very thick tan/brown head. Head is thicker than many other porters & stouts, and left a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Strong aroma of roasted coffee and toasted malts. There is some hint of sweetness from caramel, chocolate, and cocoa as well, but overall the roasted malts dominate the others. I do not get much hops aroma. There is a little earthy aroma, which I do not like.

Taste: The roasted malt flavor is pronounced. There is an interesting balance between the coffee, roasted malts, and some bitterness from hops. There is some chocolate and a little berry sweetness, with these and the bitterness enhancing the taste and adding some complexity. There is a medium alcohol presence.

Mouth-feel: Medium alcohol, but with a very smooth body, that is not too creamy.

This is a nice, complex porter, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. Although this is a medium-bodied porter, it is very smooth and enjoyable to drink.
