Poured at 45°F from a 22oz bottle (no date) into a thistle. Consumed on 28Sep16.
SMELL: Mild aromas of red cherries, black cherries, figs, and plums commingle with subtle bitter cough syrup, campfire, and caramel aromas.
3 out of 5
TASTE: A mild fruitiness of red cherry, black cherry, fig, and plum begins to unravel the taste profile. Mild flavors of caramel and subtle flavors of bitter cough syrup quickly trail as both of the cherry flavors intensify. Subtle campfire and black tea flavors next enter to provide the expected smokiness and bitterness of this style. The display of flavors concludes with subtle tree nut flavors and whispers of alcohol and spicy rye as all previous flavors persist.
3.25 out of 5
NOTE: I find it difficult to comprehend my experience with this beer. I do not understand how a brewery, with which I have only had great encounters, can make one of my favorite styles so poorly. I am unsure as to what caused it, but the perception of cough medicine is not something I desire in a beer. It was not easy to overlook despite the subtle amounts that were perceived.

22 ounce bottle served in a pint glass.

Pours a ruby brown color with off-white head.

Smells of roasted caramel malts.

Taste is just okay for me... not great. Seems to be lacking that deep, complex wee heavy taste.

Wouldn't recommend this really.

Dark amber color with light brown head. Aroma has booze soaked raisins, figs, dates and other dark fruits. Taste is somehow sweet and slightly tart with dried figs and caramel up-front. Body is quite light and effervescent. Really nice dark fruit notes but the alcohol is a bit too present for my taste.

Red-amber with a creamy tan head that settles quickly to a thin blanket leaving sheets of lace.

Smell is apple skin, grape, and nutty bread dough.

Taste is butterscotch, strawberries, fig, and apple skin.

Semi-sweet with a fluffy, full body, and dry. I like it.

In a group share, the consensus was that Outta Kilter tasted like watered down whisky. I'm disappointed in this one. It's not a complete miss, but Hoppin' Frog shouldn't charge a premium price for a product that surely is not as good as they intended it to be.

Served alongside the barrel-aged version.

Copper / ruby body with a thin to head. Aromas of light spice, malt, a touch of cinnamon. Slightly sweet, fruity, malty, bready. Solid.

L: Pours hazy amber under a dense thick 2” white foam cap with ultra fine bubbles that reduces to a thick film.
S: Sweet malt and caramel with a dose of DMS (canned corn) interwoven with rye spice.
T: Fresh baked bread crust, spicy, a touch cardamom to faint cola, some fruit, a hint of cherry, and a slight touch of tart or sour – almost lemony at the end. Finishes dry with long lingering malt flavors.
F: Low to medium low carbonation, medium full body
O: This is probably better as a beer than as a wee heavy. It is worth drinking but not worthy of an astronomical price tag.

Picked this up on whim as everything I've had from HF has been fantastic. Did not disappoint (even with the 17.99 price tag)!
