Big bourbon notes on the nose, immediately airborne from the pour, and conveying sweet notes of coconut and vanilla, woody and dull oak notes, and a sweet and slightly spicy liquor quality. Chocolate and roast from the base beer are present but restrained. It is evocative of a sea of chocolate and roasted barley, covered by a thick oily sheen of bourbon.

On the palate, the relative strengths are swapped: the base beer comes through solidly and pleasantly, while the bourbon proves to be a refined plus one to the dance. Chocolate and bourbon take the first steps together, before switching partners and allowing chocolate to pair up with a modestly charred roast. The final third sees bourbon rejoining her partner for the remaining steps. As the music stops, the echo of oak, roast, bitter bakers chocolate, and bourbon leave a lasting impression.

Thick and nearly chewy feel; wonderfully smooth. Surprising amount of heat on the very back-end. Fairly long and more or less wet finish, although there's a touch of a drying effect from the alcohol. Wonderfully easy to drink, each sip inviting the next before you've even finished contemplating the flavors still present.

The nose had me fearing this would be a bourbon lover's BBA stout. It isn't; it is a beer first and foremost, and a wonderful one, at that.

1 PINT 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter
2013

This beer pours black and is topped with an inch of tan head that leaves no lacing.

I smell bourbon right away. I get caramel and vanilla notes along with roasted malt and light anise.

Full, chewy mouthfeel

This is a solid BA stout. It may have lost something in four years. There are certainly better beers. I wonder what Fred is charging for this vintage at the taproom. I saw some ridiculous pricing of vintage beer when I was there in July.

Pours motor-oil black with a very dark brown small head. head dissipates quickly, leaving a very small ring around the glass. Beautiful head color.
Smell is a surprising amount of whiskey for the abv. Also chocolate, dark roasted malts, a bit of dark fruit.
Tastes like a well-rounded BA stout. Similar to the nose, but more whiskey and a bit of coffee and vanilla. Finishes a bit bitter.
Feel is semi-viscous, pretty thick for the abv. Nice and thick, minimal alcohol heat.

Very good BA stout here, I've passed on these seeing them on the shelves in Wis. before, will have to pick up some other variants next time.

Poured into a snifter.

Appearance is pitch black with a finger of dark brown head that dissipated quickly. Left copious alcohol legs on the glass.

The aroma is big chocolate, intense roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits and some earthy hop notes.

The taste is coffee like roast malts, chocolate, vanilla sweetness, bourbon, oak, dark fruit and earthy hop bitterness.

The palate is full and creamy with a big lingering bitter roast that mingles well with the hops to help balance it out. It is relatively drinkable for the abv.

Overall this is an excellent rendition of a barrel aged imperial stout from a brewery that seems kind of under the radar. I really like that the notes from the barrel don't overpower the base beer but instead accentuate it.

Pours black with very little head.
Smells sweet and roasty - not super complex, but very nice.
Taste is pretty good, but the bourbon doesn't really come through much other than putting a little bit of burn on it. A little sweet, a little chocolate and vanilla.
Feel is moderately heavy/thick with a little bit of a burn, but surprisingly drinkable for a BBA stout.
Overall - I'd buy it again. Maybe not the best BBA stout out there, but it's a good BBA stout that only cost me $15 for a bomber (much less than some stouts that aren't any better).

L- Pours a thick black, with a thin, creamy brown head.
S- Lots of sweet malt smell. Chocolate and black licorice. Oaky smell.
T- Very sweet right off the bat. Nice hop and spice that transitions into the chocolate and oat. Bitterness balances te begining sweetness. Bitterness resinates for a long time along with the chocolate. Whiskey botes slides im after initial sweetness and does not overpower. Wonderfully complex.
M- Wonderfully smooth symphony of tastes. Warming.
O- Complexitu makes this a wonderful offering
