I had the NITRO version of this beer at the brewery. I am not sure if I should add the NITRO version as a separate beer, so I am just pointing out that I had the Nitro version. It is a great Imperial Stout to begin with but the NITRO adds a lot of smoothness and gives you the perfect head.

Look: it’s black with a thick and soft creamy mocca colored head that stays a very long time. I've never seen a nicer looking stout.

Aroma: roasted coffee, sweet malts, chocolate and perhaps nuts.

Taste: This is a very good tasting stout, with sweet malts, chocolate, coffee and nuts. It is simply Delicious.

Feel: it is full-bodied and extremely smooth and creamy

Just a solid shelf stout from Hoppin' Frog. Along with BORIS and now TORIS, these are my go to bombers. I wish the brewery was close so I could get more of this and the variants.

From notes a ways back…
Black as can be even when held to the light, there’s nearly no edge, head is no surprise super dark, super dark roast, some licorice, fudge, chocolate syrup, charred wood, thick and silky with heaps of char on the finish

1 PINT 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter
2012

This beer pours black and is topped with less than an inch of dark brown head that leaves no lacing.

The smell is anise, dark chocolate and roasted malt.

It starts out with a dark chocolate taste that gives way to some anise and coffee flavors. The finish is anise and some black coffee bitterness.

Full mouthfeel with very little carbonation

It reminds me of Bells Expedition Stout and Founders Imperial Stout. They are cheaper, so I will stick with them.

I'm being lame and just ramping up the overall to get the score higher. This is an example of a beer that is more than the sum of its parts. It's a quintessentially well done non-BA Russian Imperial Stout.
