Barrel aged Café Boris
9.4% stout from Hoppin’ Frog
Pint can with a best by November 2024 stamp.
The body pours bible black. Wee tan head only at edge, and no lacing throughout.
The nose is the whisky barrel.
Body follows nose and perhaps is even more whiskey in flavor. Also present are strong coffee and chocolate notes.
Strangely, the strong whiskey flavor doesn't translate into a boozy heat like a fresh KBS. I say strangely as the brewery is no stranger to high ABV beers. Yet they showed some restraint here.
Mouthfeel is good. Carbonation is low, but it feels right.
Recommended only for whiskey and coffee fans.

Black with toasty brown highlights, thin cap of mocha foam. Smell has oats, belgian chocolate, toast, with french roast coffee running through it all. Tastes is centered around the coffee that thinly cuts through the chocolate, toast, oats, leather, dark fruit, caramel, and vanilla. Feel is rich, oat-bready, chewy, and roasted.

A:
Pours looking like crude oil with a couple fingers of espresso crema head that pretty much evaporates, but is a little easier to rouse up than in the other variants I've tried. Little retention; confetti lacing. (3.75)
S:
Dark roast coffee, brown sugar, rich mellow roast aromas melted together. (4)
T:
Strong coffee flavor that comes through clean (no green peppers) in harmony with everything that is there in the standard version (i.e. all the soft roast oomph with some coffee and no harshness). (4.25)
M:
Soft, almost-viscous, rich, faint carbonation, coating sweetness. (4.25)
O:
Another nice variant of this delicious huge-yet-almost-restrained stout.
This one pours, smells, drinks and tastes similar to the original, but there definitely is a more assertive coffee presence and less sweetness from the oatmeal. It is huge, yet all too drinkable, it is a little sticky on the whole for me, but I feel like the coffee helped clean that part of it up a little compared to the standard version. Another excellent beer and a fine take on a coffee stout. (4.25)

Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of dark roasted coffee, chocolate and caramel. Nice, rich coffee flavor with dark chocolate, toffee and caramel notes.

Bomber into a snifter appears black in color with a brown head that fades leaving spotty lace.
The aroma is all coffee, chocolate and roasty earthen appeal.
It tastes roasty with earth, slight citrus and finishes like bitter bakers cocoa.
This is medium in body with modest carbonation. A pleasant riff on boris.
