Excited to see an actual Christmas ale on the shelf in 2018. The smell certainly did not disappoint, tons of Christmas spices, big boozy malt, brown sugar, little smoked chocolate and christmas roll cake. Has a little breadiness to the front and finishes boozy and airy from spices, a little unbalanced in the end of the taste.

A: Poured into an oversized wine glass to a bright reddish brown topped by a finger of dense cream colored head which retains well and leaves decent lacing
S: Smells of christmas spices and dark fruits with a little bit of barrel, caramel and vanilla
T: Taste is those Christmas and mulling spices followed by some caramel sweetness, vanilla, and a touch of oak. Hints of toasted malt and a little chocolate as well. The finish on this beer is slight alcohol, dark fruits, mulling spices, caramel, vanilla, and a little oak.
M: This beer has a moderate amount of body and a slightly slick feel on the palate. Carbonation is slightly prickly in nature while the beer has a slightly drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer with some solid flavors and complexity. It also kind of tastes like a pumpkin beer without the pumpkin which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Fairly enjoyable to drink but it would be nice if the carbonation was a little lower. Worth a try though.

22oz bottle served in a tulip. Can't find a date.

Pours a murky brownish gray with little head and little carbonation. Smell is cinnamon and nutmeg and whiskey. Maybe something datelike.

Taste is nutmeg with cinnamon, strong date flavor, some booze.

Mouthfeel is heavy, a little gritty, a little too still, but not sticky. Overall, it's OK.

Dark copper colored body; fizzy head on the pour leaving a thin layer of foam once things settle. Beautiful holiday aroma; ginger and coriander; spruce tips; Xmas sugar cookies. Toasted grain and holiday spice flavors; some boozy notes yet well-balanced with the other beer components. Heavy body; velvety; fine residual sugar mouthfeel counterbalancing a boozy dryness at the finish.

A most amazing beer, probably one of the finest Xmas holiday beers I've experienced. The rich, roasted malt base beer serves as a fine background to the spices and barrel aging applied to the beer. An outstanding offering from the Buckeye state...

22 ounce bottle into a snifter.

A ruby colored pour, a little cloudy, with no head and hardly any lacing. Smells of malt, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, light vanilla, maybe some less discernible spices. Taste is malt, cinnamon, some ginger, cloves, less vanilla than the nose, some bourbon, a hint of oak. Slight alcohol. Smooth, good level of carbonation, good body.

Got this as a gift, had it three days later, and was really surprised how much I liked it. For Hoppin' Frog, the influence of the bourbon barrels is almost nil, but this is definitely worth a try. Might have to get another one and let it sit a while.

This one really isn't that far off from the base, but is a little boozier and thinner--so, kind of like a rum-heavy fruit cake, that's quite a bit more scratchy and fun, but...is it necessary? Nah...
