Nearly black. Opaque. Moderate tan head with dense lacing.

Explosive juicy scent on the pour. In the glass, roasted malt and smoke are the predominant scents.

First few sips remind me more of a stout than an IPA. Carmel and roasted malt are up front with a lingering bitterness. Actually takes on the characteristics of an IPA as it warms, with a juicy crispness.

Very smooth with lite carbonation. The best of a DIPA or stout.

Nice beer. The smokiness of the smell may have a too strong effect on the beer overall, but it is certainly unique. Something I'd want to try again.

Really nice American Black Ale. Pours a dense dark brown color into a pint glass. Light showing only at the bottom of the glass. Big tan head with good retention. Light bands of lacing on the glass.

Strong aroma of roasted malts and piney hops. The maltiness is somewhat stronger but a good inviting overall aroma.

Taste is roasted malts, chocolate and a vinuous aspect like the port wine flavor in some stouts. Nicely blended with piney and floral hops. A very flavorful beer.

Mouthfeel is very good as well. Rich and smooth. No hint of alcohol. A nice slow sipper.

Definitely recommend this one.
