22oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Amber color, lingering 1/2-finger head.
S: A bit sweet with citrus/pine hops up front, along with a hint of caramel and herbs.
T: Also sweet, herby, reminds me a bit of Cow-Tail candy with the caramel/sweetness, along with herbs and citrus/pine hops.
M: Smooth, first and foremost. I like the mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, with a long finish full of herbs.
O: Very herby. Not quite as intense/structured as I expected, a little one-sided with the herbs. I like the smoothness, and enjoyed it overall though probably would not search for another bottle.

Hoppin' Frog collaboration brew European tour series - 1 of 3, it's a super charged saison IPA at 10.9% ABV. Pours deep caramel amber with big beige head forming thick, thin speckled lacing left behind in my chalice. Aroma has citrus, pine, and deep seated caramel bready malt notes. Fruity notes, big sweet caramel malts blended to the ninth degree, deep dark fruit sweetness this is a big beer, with a smooth refined alcohol finish. Sweet spicy dark fruits plum and raisins with pear juice hit me up front with a note of spicy herbal hops, big citrus, and mild pint hop bittering aspects. Mouthfeel is the disappointment with too much residual sweetness cloying finish, that weighs down each sip a bit too much to make this truly palatable. Carbonation is ample but in no weighs resembles any type of Saison especially one brewed by Brouwerij de Molen. S.I.P.A has been done way better in America, this is just too sweet, maybe with another year of age, but by then it will lose it's hop character. The yeast in the bottom of the bottle is plentiful I'm about to dump it into my glass to see what changes. It becomes much cloudier with a hazed amber mahogany hue, the aroma is much more bready with yeast additions. Flavor wise more balanced with spice and less residual malt sugars, still as that cloying sweet finish that has scored this beer lower scores than most Hoppin' Frog products. Overall look at the beer and alcohol level brewed to a level of quality that I trust but the finished product is not what a supercharge Saison IPA is supposed to be, even if they made up a style.

A - Reddish brown, pencil thin thickness of white/cream head, dissipates to a ring around edge, hazy, opaque, lots of sediment, great carbonation rising

S - lemongrass, carmel, malt

T - sugary lemongrass, sweet carmel, boozy, bready, earthy

M - Full body, nice carbonation, hot

O - Dislike this greatly. Overly sweet, malty sugar. Almost no citrus, hot hoppy - don't find the 'IPA' at all. terrible taste. I love Hoppin Frog - but this I will recommend to avoid.

A: Warm, ruby-brown hue, off-white head, little-to-no lacing.

S: Very sweet aroma, dark fruits, hints of yeast.

T: Really sugary-sweet. Too much. A tiny kick of hops at the end, but not enough.

M: Thick. Syrupy. Matches the nose, but not in the right way.

O: I had really high hopes for this beer. I read about it shortly before it was released. I even watched the video of Hoppin’ Frog in Europe making it. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. I was anticipating a really traditional saison dryness — almost puckering-ly so — with a huge hop kick at the end for more pucker. The name ‘super-charged’ fooled me. The candy sweetness of the beer is overpowering, and really hurts the drinkability. It’s more of a hearty, wintery saison mixed with an IPA, rather than a crisp, summery saison. Those two styles just don’t mix well. I have to imagine, though, if this beer were to age for 4-6 months, it would come out a little more balanced and closer to what I had in mind, but for now, it’s just too much sweetness for me to handle.
