2012 bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a golden orange color that is muddied and hard see my hand through. No carbonation to speak of, lacing or alcohol legs. Not surprising considering the whiskey barrel aging.

S: Strong woody aroma, some boozy notes, and slight pumpkin. Wood dominates, with some spice characteristics coming in as well, subtle as they are. Very interesting smell, not the "air freshener" that Pumking is.

T: This is where the beer shines. Wow, its great. Wish I had the non barrel aged version to try next to it. Big pumpkin taste, despite the slight aroma. Woody flavors, really mellow and smooth the beer. Not boozy on the taste, with great cinnamon and spice flavors coming in. Some slight pie crust bready flavor as well. Just overall fantastic tasting beer.

M: Smooth, flat, medium bodied. Hits all the best parts of the tongue.

O: Overall a fantastic beer, and probably the second best Imperial (Pumking being #1) on the market. Love the barrel aging and would be curious to see others in the style give this a shot. Great beer.

I'm not one for Pumkin Beers but this one was very good and is severely undervalued with an 85 rating. I would certainly try it if you can get your hands on it!!!!

22oz poured into snifter.

Pours medium to dark amber, with a 1 finger off white head that holds well. Lots of vanilla and pumpkin in the nose. Some slight clove, allspice, and nutmeg around the edges of the aroma. Hints of coconut too. The taste is filled with oak, vanillia and butterscotch. The barrel seems to overwhelm the pumpkin and cinnamon but its still there. Really the pumpkin taking the back seat to the other flavors works for me. It hads a nice touch of sweetness to a otherwise boozie beer. Mouth feel is medium bodied, with a heavy dose of alcohol. The aftertaste has a nice little burn at the end. I gotta say, I really like this. It's really a bourbon flavored beer with a hint of pumpkin. It's boozie for only 8.4% ABV, but that's what you tend to get with such a strong bourbon profile.

On tap at the Hoppin' Frog Tasting Room in Akron, OH.

This one pours a bright pumpkiny orange, with a very small head, and no lacing.

Smells like vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, graham cracker, spiced pumpkin pie, and some slight bourbon.

The bourbon is more noticeable on the nose, for sure. The bourbon melds in with the meaty pumpkin and on-point spicing here. The spicing is noticeable but not overdone, like many pumpkin ales, and you can actually taste the pumpkin. This has a very strong malt backbone too, showing that it's actually a beer, toasty and caramelly, with some honey and molasses. It does give off the impression of pumpkin pie, with the graham cracker and vanilla from the barrel- which reminds me of whipped cream. There's a little bit of oak too.

This is medium bodied, with a sweet and bready mouthfeel, and a lower level of carbonation.

One of the better pumpkin ales that I've had. Really nice work from Hoppin' Frog.
