Pours a gorgeous bright orange bodied slightly clouded with yeast sediment, the bottle says to hold off on the yeast that just isn't my style. Gangster Frog IPA 7.5% abv this is and should be to my liking according to the label it has citrus and tropical fruit notes with balance. Head is thick and creamy off white with fine layered lacing settling along the sides of my glassware. Aroma is upfront hitting me hard with grapefruit and orange citrus peels, a semi sweet malt backbone is evident with each sip, but doesn't kill me with any booze or off notes. Flavor hits hard with hop bitterness but blends into a candy coated hop garden full of citrus mainly grapefruit with hints of passion fruit and mango juiciness. Clean finish doesn't linger but the hop flavors stay with you, it really adds to the drinkability of this beer a big flavorful IPA with easy going drinkability gets me every time I'm sold on the Gangster Frog, damn good drinking IPA but it's got some kick especially pouring from a 22 ounce bottle.

Newest beer from Hoppin' Frog!!

Pours out a bright and clear orange with a ton of carbonation and 2 fingers of an off-white head.

The aroma is packed with hops; sweet citrus notes, tropical fruits like mango, pineapple and papaya and some grapefruit and a little bit of bready malt.

Just like in the aroma there are a ton of hops here! A lot of sweet orange right away and then that fades into some really juicy tropical fruits like mango, papaya, pineapple, some grapefruit and some pine on the back end. There is a decent malt backbone with some bready notes.

The body is medium and the mouthfeel is crisp and clean. The alcohol is completely hidden.

This is an extremely juicy and hop packed IPA. It's a great beer that I hope they make again. Any hophead in the area really needs to try this one. A little heavy on the malt for my taste and could use some more bitterness, but an awesome beer.

Gangster Frog pours a nice orange stained gold color. It’s a little hazy. Holding it to light reveals a little more of an orange tint. It’s capped with an off white head that rises to almost a finger in height. It falls back rather quickly, leaving a light, spotty lacing on the glass. Looks pretty good.

The nose is nothing short of excellent. It’s bursting with citrus grapefruit and orange notes. It does smell a little sweet and sugary. I’m not getting much in terms of caramel…thankfully. Smells a little bread-like or crackery. There’s a malt presence here, but it’s definitely not a strong caramel base. Love it. More citrus hop scents of pineapple and mango emerge. There’s a light floral note there, as well. Alcohol is blended well. Smells excellent!

The flavor is equally as good, if not better. The malt base is sweet, bready, and crackery. There might be a subtle hint of caramel, but it’s light. Nevertheless, the base is rather sturdy and holds things together nicely. The hop flavor is excellent. It’s loaded with citrus pineapple, grapefruit, mango, and orange flavors. Light floral notes are also there. It’s a little bitter, but seems more even keel than I anticipated. It’s not a palate wrecker at all. The hops definitely deliver though! Alcohol is masked well. Finishes with a really nice citric hop flavor.

The body is on the lighter side of medium. Feels a tad thin. Carbonation is light and soft. It’s not quite smooth, but it isn’t bad. It’s definitely easy drinking. This stuff goes down far too fast and easy.

Gangster Frog is an excellent release from Hoppin’ Frog! Wow! Those guys can brew some beer. About the only complaint I have is that it seems a little thin. That’s it. It’s a solid performer all around otherwise. Seek this one out!

Poured from a bottle into a Goose Island tulip. The pour is a hazy apricot color with a finger of head that dies quickly but leaves some nice lacing. The nose is to die for. It's like dunking your head in a bowl of fresh oranges, peaches, lemons, and grapefruit. Simply a citrusy heaven.

The beer has a medium body, an oily feel, and lots and lots of fruity flavors. I get a big, sweet, toast and marmalade hit up front and chasers of orange and grapefruit flavored hops at mid-palate. For all the hop flavors, this beer is surprisingly balanced, maybe even a little sweet, yet the flavors all seem to mesh together well. Sadly, the finish is a little disappointing. The beer is a little too good-natured, leaving you with a bouquet of fruity sweetness instead of kicking you in the palate on the way out.

It's interesting how midwestern brewers are working overtime trying to nail down that West Coast IPA flavor. Fat Head's Head Hunter IPA, Great Lakes Alchemy Hour IIPA, and now Hoppin' Frog's Ganster IPA are all going super citrusy with this style. I couldn't be happier about it! A terrific beer from Hoppin' Frog and one that I hope they will re-release.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a (Hoppin' Frog) Pint Glass.

A: Pours a hazy, particulate filled lighter orange with a beautiful 2finger head. Moderate retention with lacing that lasts forever.

S: Citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, orange. A little bit of floral-ness peaks about.

T: Spot on the nose. Loads of tangerine and orange. A hint of malt sweetness mid palate. Tiny bit of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium body and carbonation.

O: Overall, excellent IPA. Reminds me a lot of Heady (Both in Appearance and Balance). Well done. Seek it out, drink it, enjoy it.

poured from a 22oz. bomber into my dogfish head spiegelau

appearance: pours a hazy dark gold orange, with a 1.5 finger off white head (hard pour), nice spotty lacing as the beer decends in the glass.

smell: the smell is remarkable, a burst of floral and citrus hops, pungent tangerine and grapefruit grace the nose. I was able to smell this after the pour even with my recent stuffy nose.

taste: matches the nose very well. tangerine and grapefruit greet the palate first soon followed by a slightly sweet malt/biscuit after and mellows into a slight bitterness, not too strong and not too weak, just the perfect amount of lingering.

mouthfeel: light medium body with very easy drinkability, slightly oily with medium carbonation. good feel

overall: this is one of my top choices for an ipa (and i am usually an imperial kind of guy). the smell coincides with the taste perfectly and the blance is wonderful. drinkability is so easy you could find yourself in trouble with this one. the name fits perfect too, like an old ganster it gets the job done with swagger and no b.s.!

This was just released so its pretty fresh. Poured 22oz bomber into tulip. Pours light hazy orange with a nice two finger head that laces well as you drink. There is an enjoyable amount of sediment. S,ell is lots of tropical fruit, pine, orange, biscuit. Taste is a lot like the nose only better, tons of orange, tropical fruit, west coast style piney hops, buttery, little malt. The texture is so smooth and the hop profile is refreshing without being overly bitter or abrasive. Overall this beer was amazing, a great west coast style ipa that is refreshing and easy to drink. Has the perfect hop profile and tons of sweet fruit. This was better than I expected and I hope it ps easy to get as summer rolls on.

22 oz Bomber purchased at Lizardville just a few days after the release date (very fresh). Poured into a Tulip glass. My first Hoppin Frog IPA...I admit, I avoid because of no bottling date and $$$$. Love their BORIS Crusher stout.

A - golden, copper tone and pours a slight head. alcohol is noticeable. Not exactly sticky lacing but lacing is present nonetheless. Tiny particles of beery goodness can be found if you look close.

S - citrus / tangerine / orange.

T - citrus hops roll into an excellent, lingering bitter profile. Surprised at the bitter trail considering its only 55 IBU. Bread / biscuit flavour strong. Malts are present and balance out the hops nicely. Very balanced overall, this is not a 'hop bomb' style IPA. Although it doesn't taste like a 'Bell's Two Hearted', I'll use it as a reference as it has a similar risk and uniqueness in the IPA class of beers.

M - Extremely fresh so it was terrific for my experience. Syrupy hop goodness.

O - I was impressed. Lots of character and this would be appreciated by those that like balanced hop / malt single IPAs. Bitterness is very present, but well done. Would buy again, but it's a bit pricey.

Poured into a tulip.

A : Tangerine orange with a finger and a half head that holds nicely

S: Smells or orange peel and pure citrus. There's a hint of maltiness in the nose to balance it out.

T: An explosion of tangerines. The hops are there but the bit is mild on this. Just enough malt backbone to really balance this IPA out.

M: Slick, medium mouthfeel and leaves a citrus finish that goes for miles.

O: I'm really impressed with this beer. Extremely drinkable, very well balanced. Delicious.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy burnt golden with a solid fluffy white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing. The aromas are full of sticky grapefruit, mango, pineapple. There's subtle notes of garlic and onion. The malts are much more noticeable in the flavors, compared to the nose. Flavors are spot on, but aren't as strong as the aromas. The fruity tropical flavors take over. This isn't as bitter as I would expect. There's a subtle spiciness. Maybe a touch of rye or black pepper. They did a great job of giving this IPA balance. And when I say balance, I'm not saying the malts takeover. It's just a very easy drinking IPA. Dangerously drinkable. The mouthfeel is wonderful. It's medium-bodied and the carbonation is active making it fluffy and creamy. Very smooth IPA. The alcohol goes unnoticed. Nice interpretation of the west-coast style. Nice use of citra hops.

Great IPA right here. It's probably the best one I've had from Hoppin' Frog. Bravo.

Gangster Frog Ipa

Poured into Duvel Tulip

A : Poured a golden orange with a two finger head that descended into a thin frothy lacing.

S: Tropical /Citrus with a decent hop presence , slight bread / malt.

T: Wow. What a tropical /citrus bomb , Orange peel / Tangerine , sweet malt, minimal hop bite. Very tasty

O: This beer can hold its own with any single American Ipa out there. If you see it don't hesitate to grab one.
