Appearance: I like this a lot. This stuff has a thick appearance. I accidentally spilled some on myself and it looked as though I was bleeding stout (perhaps this biased my score a tad, but it was cool)! In the glass it was very dark and light did not pass through the glass.
Smell: Nothing out of this world. It is on par with most BA Stouts.
Taste: This is not a disappointment at all and I was worried because the age of the barrel is different for irish wiskey. I know that it doesn't have a lot of the tannens from the barrel because it was aged in an Irish whisky barrel, but the buttery whiskey taste along with the cocoa, oatmeal and tobacco are all present. Like others have posted if this ages well in the cellar and the flavors come together this bottle could become something truly remarkable. (I'll let you know in six months).
Mouthfeel: Even though this pours out really thick it did not feel very thick once I drank it. It was like the Irish wiskey thinned it out a bit. I really do hope it thickens out over time.
Overall: This was very good, and certainly better than regular BA Boris. However, I can't wait to drink some a few months from now (fingers crossed)

1 PINT 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter
2013
This beer pours black and is topped with less than an inch of mocha head that leaves no lacing.
The nose is like dessert, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate.
The taste is rich with chocolate, caramel, and vanilla with hints of alcohol and dark chocolate and coffee in the finish.
Full and velvety smooth mouthfeel
This has held up well for four plus years. It is definitely one of the best barrel aged version of BORIS. The taste and smell are great, and I feel like a warm, fuzzy blanket is being wrapped around me with each sip.

2013 bottle into a shaker pint for a Super Bowl tasting. Pours an opaque black with a thin layer of light brown head that had good retention. Smell is enjoyable, chocolate, whiskey, and a hint of butter perhaps. Taste is a bit hot, but very enjoyable buttery smooth mesh of chocolate and whiskey. Mouthfeel is super smooth, carbonation spot on, and a slightly hot and boozy finish.

22oz bomber, green cap, poured into KBS snifter. Opaque, black elixir, thin rim quickly dissipates. Legs coat the glass.
Holy hell the aroma really hits home: smooth Jameson whiskey, vanilla, honey, char, cocoa. Swirl this and smell all night long.
Smooth whiskey, vanilla, cocoa, subtle burnt malt lingers. Really nice combo.
The base beer provides a nice smooth mouth feel with the alcohol well hidden.
This is my favorite treatment of the base BORIS and the whiskey combined with the smooth oatmeal stout brings it home. Well done.

The following written review is for my final bottle, enjoyed 9/7/2017.
Pouring squid ink black, Bairille Aois displays a moderate, dense mocha head that settles to a permanent collar, even after all these years.
Smell is peanut butter wafer, wet chocolatey oak, a touch of spicy, savory bourbon, roasted nuts, and a hint of molasses.
Taste is roasty, dark malt and peanuts with oats, molasses and black licorice but also simultaneously maple and candied pecans. It's so distinctly glazed pecans, it's insane and delicious, and a little smoky.
Feel is slick and a bit less thick than normal BORIS, but still luscious with a semi-dry, slightly sticky finish.

Roasty but wish it had more barrel character

Pours thick, oily, and black. Smells lightly boozy. Tastes, oh my, tastes slightly sweet with a slight bitter coffee finish. Feels amazing. Thick, slick, but not syrupy. Just great. I would drink this again. And again.
