Bottle to tulip.

A. Poured very dark brown. Fairly thin viscosity. Poured an excellent frothy fine bubble amber head that retreat to an impressive rim.

S. The nose has a layered malt/coffee/whiskey/oak presence.

T. A contrast between the malts and whiskey and the malts win. A bitterness follows indicating a hops presence. I notice the base stout. Heavy on the grain. A little coco and coffee. The whiskey (could have fooled me for bourbon) is certainly prevalent.

M. Slightly silky finish. Moderate carbonation. Uber full body.

O. Bourbon or whiskey, when its good your splitting hairs. Each is very similar to the other and this ale is similar to some dang fine bourbon aged stouts. This is a well crafted ale.

A: Pours a thick and black with a gradually rising reddish brown head. Good retention and some light lace with each sip. A good looking beer.

S: Takes a little while to get there, but once this warms up, it's pretty solid. Lots of heavily roasted malt, wet barrel, mild dark fruit, amaretto, whiskey and some cherry. The wood really starts to come through the more this beer warms.

T: Definitely doesn't have the sweetness that most bourbon barrel aged stouts have. The whiskey gives this one much more of an edge. Dark chocolate, just a hint of dark fruit, a thick pull of whiskey, a touch of toffee and just a bit of burnt espresso alongside some booze on the finish. Mouthfeel is maybe a touch thin, and this may be just a touch hot, but this is some pretty solid stuff.
