A beautiful, creamy, light tan head atop clear, dark brown liquid. Lots of lace coat the glass.
Smell is subtle for the style but the notes of smoked meat, malt with a wee hint of hop.
Taste is more expected: smoky, unctuous, faint hops through.
Medium bodied, smooth, with a nice bit of lingering smokiness.

.5L into tulip. Swing-top bottle.

A- Pale copper, nice pour, head fizzes out quick.

S- Mild smoke, very faint although it's good.

T- Pilsner in taste, with a good smoke component. Not nearly as intense as some other rauchbiers, which I'm thankful for. Don't get me wrong, I love some liquid smoke, but this one takes rauchbiers in another direction. The smoke/campfire taste is very nice and muted enough to enjoy the pale malt qualities of the beer.

M- Pilsner in body, as well. Light, refreshing, and a wisp or two of smoke.

D- High- I would drink a growler of this and not be sick of it. The attenuated smoke levels do this beer a favor- impossibly drinkable.

Pours into a 1/2 liter stein a deep bronze with a large fluffy light tannish colored head atop, great color and head.Aromas are on the lighter side with hardwood smoke and a tinge of iron, not much sweetness.Lighter and relatively smooth in the mouth.Smoke and cherry flavors although both are subtle, with caramel in the finish.A pretty subtle rauchbier but will go good with some knackwurst and dumplings tonight.

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, clear, gold in color, high carbonation

Smell: smoked wood

Taste: tea, grass, leaves, smoke throughout

Mouthfeel: light bodied, slightly bitter, dry, high carbonation

Drinkability: This strikes me like a bit of a smoked English pale ale combined with some German ale characteristics. It is different from other rauchbiers I have had. Could have several. A very good brew.

Appearance: Dark amber in thick 16 oz. pint glass, served on draft at the fine Holy Grale in Louisville, KY. Served warm as should be. No visible lace.

Aroma: Smoky woodsy greatness. Salty, cured, dried jerky, warm campfire…

Taste: Again, woody, caramel, smoky, like burnt mesquite and caramelized campfire wood. Very mellow and pleasant. Certainly a lovely brew, faithful to style and light enough to enjoy anytime. This particular night (rainy, cold, before a Watter show) was perfect!

50cl bottle. Pours clear yellow-copper with a huge, fluffy white head that won't die. Thick lacing when it finally does. Light smoked malt aroma with nice fruitiness. Grainy and earthy. Full, malty taste with some light smoked grain. Somewhat fruity and a bit sweet; hoppiness at the end combines with smoke to dry it out. Not the kind of beer you sit and search out all of the minute complexities of, even though they're definitely present. The kind of thing to drink and enjoy, and drink some more. Great rauchbier.

Tap House in Copenhagen. Not quite up to Schlenkerla, but a very nice representation.

Saturated deep auburn color, sharp clarity, two fingers of tan foam that leave behind lots of lacing all around the glass. Long lasting surface coverage that doesn't break until close to the end of the glass.

Soft woody smoke in the aroma, pipe tobacco, nutty toasted malt.

Taste is lightly smoky, nutty toasted malt comes through as well. Finishes dry, and is light to medium bodied with ample carbonation. Overall a nice easy-going rauchbier that would make a good intro to the style. Pretty drinkable and actually refreshing which is rare for the style.

Look- Pours a ruby-tinged brown with a 2 finger dirty white head

Smell- Primarily campfire smoke, but also getting a little sweet breadiness a light floral hops

Tastes- starts with the campfire smoke, but then a firm grainy breadiness kicks in but not as sweet as the aroma indicates. Faintest bit of the floral hops at the end w/a little bitterness

Feel- light-bodied and soft

Overall- nice rauchbier, heavy on the smoke, but it's contrasted nicely by the grainy bread taste underlying it

Poured from the bottle into a Schlenkerla tall pint glass.

What an interesting head color. Light chocolate tan with a foamy and very soapy four finger head. Island pick lacing and cap, sitting on a real nice dark red amber body, with mahogany highlights all throughout. Real neat looking Rauch.

The bouquet is classic smoked beechwood, but much more smaller and subtle on the nose. Small hints of caramel, a bit of faint sweetness as well to match.

Palate doesn't seem to deliver much and is very tame. Mild smoke and woody aromas, but a good amount of prickly carbonation and pilsner like feel. Banana esters a bit round out on the finish with come milk chocolate. Slightly crisp a bit with not much malt density or coating thickness. Steely finish with some fruit citrus and more of the banana.

Comes off as a milder rauch with some marzen character. Decent but not really bringing the goods or really interesting to me.

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Henrietta, NY.

This one pours a light brown-ish color, with a small white head, and a bit of lacing.

Smells mildly smokey, kind of like pork sausage with caramel drizzle, a little bit. There's a bit of breadiness, too.

This is kinda like Schlenkerla lite, when it comes to malt richness and smokiness. It's still very tasty, though- that's a hard brewery to live up to. It's an enjoyable version of a style that I'm growing to love more and more. It's got a light sweet and warm smokiness to it, not harsh at all, with a sweet caramel malt backbone, and a hint of breadiness. There's no hop character to speak of.

This is very easy drinking, goes down quite easy, with a normal level of carbonation.

These liquid sausage beers might not be for everybody, but they're certainly for me. One of the best Rauchbiers I've had from not Schlenkerla.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark brownish orange with a one finger light khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of faintly biscuit and caramel malt and wood smoke, a hint of smokehouse. Flavor is a lightly flavored pale malt, wood smoke, tea and mild light fruit. A nice lingering wood smoke finish which reveals a little more of the smokehouse character. Light to medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. A relatively mild flavored smoked beer that has all the flavors I hope for in this style, but a little laid back. It is redeemed by the finish which has the umami meat smokehouse character exhibited by the best of this style and not much tartness, which some lighter examples have. I liked this mellow rauchbier and glad I got a chance to try it.

A: The beer is clear dark red in color (dark brown when viewed from a distance) and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of smoked malts are present in the smell—these become a little stronger as the beer warms up.
T: As in the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of smoked malts and has some associated notes of iodine and Band-Aids.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied and slightly watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a good representation of the style and seems to be easier to drink compared to some of the other rauchbiers that I've had because it isn't overly smoky and isn't as heavy in body.

Produces a fist full of light tan head, clear and copper colored body. Awesome retention that lasts forever.

Smoke aroma is easily detectable, hickory and pepper blended into the mix.

Taste is of sweet molasses upfront, gut gets kicked to the side with peppery, meaty, and smoky goodness.

MF is medium in body, good and wetting to the palate with prickly sensation from the carbonation.

Very drinkable, moderate in ABV, and complex.

0.5l bottle, best by 19 Feb 2010 (a little late...). Pours a completely clear golden-orange color, creamy off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma is caramel malts, wheat, wood, slight smoke and bacon. Flavor is pale malts, a bit of caramel, fruity, and some smoke. Mouthfeel is light to medium with a dry finish. Decent beer, I tend to like this level of smoke, but it could use more smoke and more backbone.
