A - A dark brown with some dark red highlights.
S - Incredibly sweet smelling, hints of anice, black current, cherries, cranberry, coffee and chocolate.
T - Rather bland in comparison with the smell. Lingers a burning taste of coffee in the aftertaste. Notes of fruit and coffee are present but subtle.
M - A bit watery, and quite light. Perhaps even undercarbonated.
D - Not so bad, the mouthfeel makes it much more drinkable.

Pours dark with a good head that didnt stay around long vert little lacing. Smell is not very powerful but pleasant. Has a carmel and coffee aroma. Taste was very mild and had a watered down feel with light carbonation. Roasted coffee and malt flavors were good, I just wish a bit stronger. I think this is a good beer but it is one you need to be in the mood for.

S: roasted malt, coffee

A: black w/ tan head

T: light, nice roasted/coffee flavor, creamy mouthfeel, light body, metallic (copper) note on finish

O: great example of a black lager, nice malt flavor with a light body. very easy to drink, would be a good session bier even though its dark in color.

Poured from 1-pint .9 oz. bottle into nonic pint glass. Born date of 4-5-06 on bottle label.

Appearance: dark brown "cola" like look with red hues along outer edges. Lots of visible carbonation builds volumous head which quickly recedes to almost none, just like a cola. Sticky lacing clings to sides of glass.

Smell: sweet aroma of dark chocolate, burnt toffee, malts and coffee.

Taste: bittersweet chocolate with dry aftertaste. Slightly bready.

Mouthfeel: needs more depth, bit watery and thin. Overcarbonated for my satisfaction.

Drinkability: fairly easy to drink beer. Nothing complex about this seemingly simple beer.

Appearance- Fluffy head that slowly dissolved into a thin lace. Very dark for a lager.

smell- smoky chocolate like aroma

taste- very soft going down. A slight linger on the tongue but nothing too overpowering. Kind of a metalic aftertaste. Not too many bubbles, but enough carbonation; medium bodied.

Mouthfeel- I am not a great judge of this category, but there was something about this beer.

Drinkability- pretty good. Not too heavy. A bit like a light porter, but much more drinkable. Maybe about 3-4 in a session.

a bit lackluster for a shwarzbier
a hint of burnt caramel malt
and a strange bit of aftertaste
almost like cardboard

yet it is supposedly a wheat shwarzbier
so of course it is different
it is what it is
but it is not my favorite

ruby black
a bit of head
with a foam that disappears
smells of subtle
dark malt

taste is a very mild feel
of slight bitter hops
and the malt
{paper yeast}

feels okay on the palatte
goes down with
unspectacular ease

If you like your beer a bit on the dark side, this is the perfect beer for a light fish or salad course.

It poured a chocolate brown with a thick, impressive tan head which left a ring-like lace on my glass.

The smell was sweet with a miniscule amount of hops.

The taste was light at the front of my tongue but got more pronounced once swallowed. Vanilla, coffee and chocolate quickly come and go.

I want more.

Pour: A very dark brown with minimal lacing or head
Smell: Roasted malt with a bit of sweet, faint caramel
Taste: Very smooth with predominant roasted malt like flavor. Little if any hops. Faint sweet caramel and coffee finish
If you like a beer dominant in malt flavor with coffee notes, this one is for you. I would recommend

I bought this not paying attention that the bottle dated from 2009, so I have to give props for the excellent head retention. Deep, clear brown color. It has a roasted malt aroma and flavor - mild and drinkable. I think it goes especially well with food. I whipped up a curried rice dish for dinner. The food brought out the roasted flavor of the beer. As far as mouthfeel, it's not like a Belhaven, but then again, we're not talking about an ale here. This is a dark lager. I would have this again, hopefully a fresh version next time.

Tastes like the foil wrap that covers the neck and cap. I don't want to be too much of a naysayer, so I'll use a filler here: blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I couldn't make it past the third sip. Drink, drank, drunk.... dumped!
