330 ml bottle; Best before 10/12/2013

Poured into Duvel tulip. Wow: 2 inches of snow-white billowing head. The rest looks a bit like rusty water. This smells like a belgian: banana/yeast/esthers. Tastes like a run of the mill belgian: can't taste the "hop" in "Hopus". There is a very faint lingering bitterness.

For $5 & 11.2 oz, pass on this one. There are better belgians for less than a sawbuck per...

After reading some of the negative reviews for this brew, I realized that I have not had the same experience as any of them . . . and the only difference was that they had bottles and I had it on draft. I was not expecting much from this beer, I simply saw it on the beer menu at a restaurant and decided to give it a try and wow did I make a good decision. Poured with BIG head which did wonders to release the wonderful floral aroma of the beer. Upon first sip I was astounded as to how smooth it was. A juicy taste of citrus fruits and mostly lemon with maybe a hint of malt dominated the experience with a smooth bitter hop finish that dissipated faster than expected. Others have compared part of the taste to soap, and I can see where they are coming from but I do not believe soap is what they are tasting. My guess is that it is orange or lemon peel they are tasting. I Definitely not your typical IPA, but honestly it makes for an easy and enjoyable experience.

Got to be one of the best looking beers, a lovely light body topped with a meringue style head, like the best retaining head I have seen....bulges out above the glass and stays put like a whippy icecream.

Aroma is light and hoppy, refreshing with mild honey.

Taste is a touch disappointing, just hit with alcohol, and at 8.3% I can see why some BA reviews suggest tripel like, it is just very sharpe.

Aftertaste is a continuation of the taste, no hiding from it, it stays with you until your next quaff.

Overall I would say this is a pretty good beer, which could have been better if it had some taste of note, and perhaps dare I say it?, less alcohol!!

Still worth a few bottles of the stuff for sure.

Horrible tin-can metallic smell and somewhat taste, despite coming from a bottle.

Golden hazy colour. With an amazing hughe head. But you smell it, and it´s like a alcoholic golden pale ale...where are the hops?...some alcoholic, and yeast notes in mouth, and some light hops, not bitter flavour, not complex...just a little bit in the finish, but it tastes malty, grasy and alcoholic...It seems a try of a handcrafted IPA, but I think it´s not-. I think it´´s not an IPA at all.

Bottle into tulip glass
A – Huge white head is quite coarse yet retains surprisingly well but scattered lacing is just OK, brew is a clear dark gold with a touch of amber 4
S – Apple and peach dominate the nose, mild sweetness and tart profiles 3.5
T – Unique brew. A quite tart bitterness that fades to a fruity blend of green apple, peach and strawberries (?) with a round & mild sweet malt finish. Finishing up the bottle and wondering where this is going still, I’ve not had many Belgian IPAs. Grassy aftertaste & mild alcohol notes. 3
M – Lighter body has nice carbonation which gives a substantive quality & nice mouthfeel to a light brew 4
O – Mouthfeel was nice, too bad I didn’t enjoy the odd tart/bitter/fruit combo and won’t be seeking this out again 3.5

If you're looking for a Belgian beer to be the PNW equivelant of an IPA...look no further...it is said that, "hell is the impossibility of reason," and truly, to search for an Old World beer reach the New World hoppiness is just that. But if you do need hops this will fall short despite the name.

Don't get me wrong. It's alright. Really.

Strike is fruity, and warm with the 8.5% alcohol glow it claims. Head it retained moderately as is the lacing. Spice of the nutmeg to softness of vision on the long finish.

Nothing to write home about...similar to, "homebrew pride," in it's flavours.

Bottle purchased at a random bottle shop in Brugge, Belgium. Notes from April 2011.

A: Orange gold coloring with a thick foam head. Heavy amounts of lacing were apparent.

S: Citrus and pine from the hops are the main aroma in this beer. There is some malt and Belgian yeast waiting around in the back.

T: After an initial Belgian yeast flavor, the citrus notes from the hops take center stage.

M: Medium body with good carbonation. Alcohol well hidden.

O: This was a total blind buy for my first purchase in Belgium. I tired finding something a similar to what I'm used to back home in Seattle before branching out. Nice combination of a Belgian ale with citrus and pine hop flavor from a typical IPA.

none of the belgian india pale ales are really hoppy in the american sense, but this one has some tang to it. pours a little hazy bright golden color with a ton of carbonation and lasting head. smells like bready yeast, english caramel malts in a refined form, and something more than kent goldings on the hop front. not a beast, but a bigger on the hop belgian. the booze is absent in the taste, which is surprising. you can really feel it. the flavor is the same as the nose, with a crisp aftertaste. great feel, bright bubbles and cold clean finish. not my favorite belgian, but a nice take on this style and a beer i will definitely drink again here in europe. this is as hoppy as ive been able to find in eastern europe.

Pours a warm golden with a huge white head. Later when you pour the yeast it becomes very hazy.

Smell is very nice; IPA like hops with Belgian yeast!

The taste has hints of APA in it as well as a Tripel.
It is reasonably well hopped but it quite malty as well. A little hint of Orval sourness prehaps? Overal nice but not that special.

Adding more yeast makes it a little bit different in my opinion.

Mouthfeel is medium and it has quite alot of carbonation.

Overal a good, tasty Belgian brew but not very special.
Still, my first belgian 'IPA'.

In my opinion this beer is evidently based on the Barbar Honey Beer of which I'm a great fan. It looks like Lefebvre put some extra hops extract in it in stead of the honey. The result is quite nice, but not very distinguishing.

It looked impressive, that's for sure. The hops were there, but what else?

Tasted hoppy, not overwhelming though.

Overall: reasonable, commercialized beer. Okay but not impressive.

Poured from brown swing top 330mL bottle to Duvel tulip. Bottle reads best before end: L20130809. The beer pours a cloudy dark golden color with a nice 2 finger white head. Excellent retention and some lacing. The nose is peculiar yet nice, blends of belgian yeast, hints of dark fruit, almost wild character. The flavor is equally distinct, mild caramel malt base provides a mild sweetness from which the light belgian yeast builds. Hints of banana and apples. Mildly bitter, more fruity. Finishes with a hint of tart. Odd flavor for a Belgian IPA, but not bad at all. Medium bodied and carbonated the beer finishes dry yet smooth. Overall, an interesting beer. Not as hoppy as I expected though pleasant.

Looks like almost a wheatbeer straw and cloudy wild white head. Semolina and white pepper aroma.

Bitter tasting with floral notes ethanol, hops are there with dulled sugars.

Nice mouthfeel good low carbonation, really a class and type of its own

a great beer all round.

I created an account specifically to review this beer. I’ve noticed many bad reviews. It’s fresh when cold. Good fruity, yet bold taste. Fun pop top. Decor looks like something off the Goonies treasure map. No bad notes for this beer. Delicious
