Clear and deeper brown, but not opaque. Head is impressive at first but settles into a big-bubbled fading cap at 50 seconds. Mostly a caramel aroma with a little sulfur whiff. Flavor is malt sweet, not easy to characterize, with a hop bite early. Lighter mouthfeel than implied by the color. What little hop there is is far superior to the malt. A little raisiny wateriness as the beer proceeds past the tongue. I'm sure its drinkable in the heat but where's the beef? Mucho thanks to my bud Dave Szy. for getting the bottle past 4 airport inspections on his way back from the island.

Bought and drank in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. this is pretty bad, though it is readily available throughout the country. This is drinkable with a burger, but I would really rather have a non-dark beer. This is basically a regular beer with coloring added. It has a bit of extra malt flavor. Forgettable.

The head is full enough and the lace left on the glass looks good.
Though good malty & caramel flavors are there, I had hoped for more intensity. The mouth feel is also a little weak.
From my limited exposure to cervecas en Costa Rica, this is my “go to” for the week I’m here.

this one was pretty rotten, one of the worst beers i had on my trip to costa rica, and one i had a bad experience with and kept saying i would order another one at some point to give it another chance, but just couldnt bring myself to. its dark brownish red in color with almost no head, disappointingly flat looking. aroma is sweet and a little roasty, but super sugary, not done fermenting at all it doesnt seem, and i dont taste the yeast at all either. raisin juice, brown sugar, slight burnt caramel, it just doesnt come together, almost like a dark corn syrup thing, whatever it is, its too sweet and it doesnt work for me. if it had some bubbles it would help a lot, but it was dead flat from the bottle for me, and this made it heavy and thick and tiring to get through, which is a real shame in a market where dark beer is hard to come by and even a decent one would really by nice. i wanted so badly for this to come through for me, but to no avail. sugar all over my teeth, heavy in my belly. i do find a redeemable roast character in here through the sludge, and there is potential, but this seems sloppy and almost overlooked as a recipe. anyone tasting this at the brewery? it could easily be a league better than it is. a letdown for me.

350 ml can poured into a tumbler.
A- Brown, on the lighter side of a dark beer. Tan head with mediocre retention. Looks almost like a cola.
S- Straw, grassy notes. Slight roast. Very mild earthy hop aroma.
T- Light and grassy. Some caramel notes.
M- Very light and a tad sweet. Wet finish. For a "dark" beer, this one is still poundable.
O- For Ticos, I think this means mixing it up. But this really isn't a great deal different from the light lagers.

12 oz bottle in San Jose, CR. Pours dark brown with tall, creamy, off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt and dark fruit. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Taste is of toasted malt, some earthy hops, chocolate and dark fruit. Finish is long and semi-dry. Better than most crap in Costa Rica.
