A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of chocolate, coffee, and oak intertwined with some spicy rye notes along with a hint of caramel
T: Taste is sweet cream and vanilla up front with some chocolate and coffee. The rye spice comes in along the middle with some nice warming spices. Hints of baking spice and oak with a little creme brulee. On the swallow there's more rye spice, oak, chocolate, vanilla, a touch of caramel, and lingering creme brulee sweetness with a hint of warming spices.
M: This beer is on the heavier side of medium with a silky feel on the palate. Carbonation is soft but adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish from the ABV.
O: Overall this is a fantastic beer. Great flavors and the rye barrels makes for a nice addition to the base beer. This is probably one of my favorite iterations from a flavor and complexity aspect. Perfect for a cool and rainy evening.

2016 Vintage
11.9% ABV
Appearance: Very dark brown bordering on black with a fairly generously sized dark beige head that gradually faded. A very nice looking Imperial Stout
Smell: Brown sugar, mild Whiskey, and mild roasted malt aromas. Not a bad nose but the barrel aromas are fairly mild.
Taste: The rye Whisky bal-aging is very smooth and makes for a very tasty and smooth drinking flavor profile. The profile also features roast malts, mild vanilla, brown sugar and restrained oak notes. The finish is a bit drier than the Bourbon bal-aged variants. Very restrained alcohol presence for the listed ABV.
Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation.
Overall: This was a good Eclipse variant and is another prime example of how the different barrels impact the base beer. This variant is very smooth with a tasty flavor profile. It's either this or the Apple Brandy variant that was my favorite of the 2016 vintages.

Sweet chocolate sweet bourbon oak dark chocolate. Same body and look as all the others.
Overall I liked this way better than the Grand Cru...sweeter and less harsh.
