Notes: Bottle #1 of 6 - Brewers' Intent 2017

With a complex vinous character, our Saison is a true beer/wine hybrid. Pineau, the lesser known cousin of Cognac, is fortified wine (vin de liqueur), blended of slightly fermented grape must and eaux-de-vie (Cognac).

The light body from our farmhouse saison allows the Pineau barrel to have center stage. The Belgian yeast phenolics are complimented by the French oak and wine character, allowing this rustic saison to shine. Drink fresh or allow this beer to age gracefully.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a light gold topped by a dense two and a half fingers of white head which retains well and fades slowly to a small pool with minimal lacing
S: Smells of slight vinous character and fruity esters, a little spicy and grassy, and some tropical fruits
T: Taste is slight wine character and sultanas up front before some dry oak comes in, tropical fruits and fruity notes followed by some spice and grassyness. Swallow is lingering wine, dry oak, and lingering white peppery spice.
M: This beer is on the lighter side of things without being watery. Slightly oily to be honest. Carbonation is effervescent from bottle conditioning but is not prickly and the beer has a very dry finish.
O: Overall this is a pretty interesting beer. Definitely nice to get some experimentation out of FiftyFifty. Lots of flavors that are well integrated taking a very solid saison and moving it up to the next level. The main shocker on this beer is just how dry the finish is.
