Imperial Eclipse Stout - Bookers (BKR)Imperial Eclipse Stout - Bookers (BKR)
Notes: Now in its 12th vintage, 2019 Eclipse is our rich Imperial Stout aged to perfection in whiskey and spirit barrels. All Eclipse starts with the same base beer bringing hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and a smooth complexity, with each barrel treatment delivering its own unique character after a minimum of 180 days of aging. Booker's (code BKR) is aged in select bourbon barrels. Dipped in yellow wax.

Cellared bottle for a little over a year. Brownish black body with a light brown head that settles into a collar. Huge bourbon with molasses and dark chocolate with supporting dark wet oak and dark fruit in the nose. This same triumvirate lead the taste too, but the bourbon is hot with booze, char, earth, a kiss of vanilla and raisin are in the background but they are destroyed by the booze before the sip ends. Feel is hot and large, chewy waves of malts shape but bring that heat unrelentingly to the palate. If you like them hot you will like this one, I should have aged longer to unlock the depths of this one

Yet another entry I'm reminded I've yet to get up here. At this point, I'm not sure how many spirit vessels are left that haven't been an Eclipse beer.

You know the drill, pours black to the darkest of all browns. Brown head 1/3". The standard Eclipse appearance, this one doesn't deviate. Aroma, yeah, I'm just gonna apologize at this point, but you know, bourbon, chocolate malt, roast, wood, the usual stuff.

Taste, this has got to be the most Eclipse beer since they had Elijah Craig and Evan Williams for all those years. This is one that would be difficult to pick out of a blind tasting, because it is so quintessential Eclipse, having the all the normative qualities for Eclipse. Light wave of caramel, baker's chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, oak all that shit at every sip. Usual way of making 12% nice to sip on without having to brace your mouth for some hard fucking.

Once again, another Eclipse beer that is very good with a very expensive price tag. Crush at the party but no bottles any more.

2019 vintage, cool they are putting these in the smaller bottles now and actually printing on them what barrels they use, i remember the old days of trying to determine between purple and lavender wax on some only wax guide! big thanks to my dad and my brother for wrangling three different variants of this iconic masterpiece for our tasting pleasure. this was delicious, smooth but also warm and whiskey forward, i have not had enough bookers in my life to call it out specifically, but it stood decidedly apart from the high west edition we had before it, rich and spicy, long in the finish, the base stout seems perfectly built for it. its nice to look at, short but stocky tan headed, creamy and frothy looking, on a lustrous black base. it smells and tastes like good espresso, charred oak, floral honey through it all, maple from the whiskey, and bitter bakers chocolate. its luxurious to drink, velvety in texture, warm from the alcohol but not burning, and regal and mature from its wood time, this whiskey specifically adds an earthy depth to it and some sweetness in the middle where it isnt always in these variants. charcoal, coffee, molasses, tobacco, and fresh scraped vanilla bean intermix as it warms, and it finishes with some whiskey heat, a little sort of rye spiciness or something, and just enough residual sugar to keep it on the tongue awhile. huge body, not sticky but rich to me, and wonderfully aged at this point. complexity here is nearly unrivaled, and neither is the quality, this series continues to deliver time and time again!

Jet black pour with minimal head. Nice smooth, full mouthfeel--a stout of substance! Flavors underneath are chocolate, molasses, pumpernickel, but the bourbon comes through above all, maybe a little too strong. The only demerit for a solid BBA stout.

Pours near back, soft tan head with minimal lacing. Nose is big bourbon notes - vanilla, oak, roasted malt, nutty heat. Flavor is surprisingly sweet, with hits of brown bread, caramel, toffee, chocolate; some alcohol heat on the finish. Mouthfeel is very thick and rich, smooth, with minimal carbonation. Very solid, but found the sweetness out of proportion.

Bottle to snifter.

LOOK: dark black color, small to medium tan head. OK retention.
AROMA: dark chocolate is first. Next is roasted malt, coffee, and some light vanilla.
TASTE: roasted malts, some cocoa sweetness,
FEEL: silky smooth, full bodied. ok carbonation, but healthy for the style.

Just a lovely sweet and bitter brew. Eclipse are always lovely, just tough to get to all of them. Used to be for the scarcity, but now more for the price.

Quarantine day twenty three: stability reigned. Almost normal. I feel pretty. 500 ML yellow-waxed bottle split reluctantly with my wife.

Black. The nose brings chocolate chips, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, & the future echo of yumminess.

Imperial Eclipse Stout – Booker’s is good, like an unexpected link while you’re drifting idly through a good Porn Hub session. The bourbon is sharp, boozy, & simultaneously smooth, which makes as much sense as a bad Porn Hub session. Mid-palate brings chocolate chip (probably Ghirardelli), sinus clearing booze, wood, just a touch of roast. Harsh – but smooth. This should come in moderate size buckets. I’d love to pass out face-first in a bowl of this.

This beer is a study of contradictions & another in a long line of Eclipse triumphs. Excellent beer.

Review #7500, drinking on a day when i found out we're stuck in the house for 3 weeks thanks to Covid-19...
Pours a med foamy tan frothy head with lower retention, long legs, thick layered black beer

Nose brings plenty of dark chocolate, roast, plenty of bourbon barrel characters, juicy bourbon, vanilla barrel, cookie dough, little alcohol, dark choc fudge and cocoa, little caramel and nougat, baking spices, smooth rich vanilla, some coffee late

Taste brings thick fudge, dark chocolate, cocoa, layers of cocoa and chocolate, then into big vanilla smooth rich vanilla and bourbon barrel, juicy smooth bourbon, a bit spicy with bitter spicy hops and some baking spices, bit of nougat and cookie dough as well, very dark roast but stops just short of acrid, some roasted coffee as well, bit of alcohol but not a ton, med bitterness, mild dry semi sticky finish

Mouth fuller bod, rich chewy like, med-lighter carb, mild warming alcohol

Overall solid beer, great base stout as usual, barrel came through quite nicely, this was def a delicious beer as most of the Eclipses are

Draught 8oz snifter at Wet City in Baltimore. A good looking black pour. A lot of bourbon on the nose & tongue, but no appreciable alcohol burn. Nice, but pricey.
